"MF Only" Warning & No Gain

I just recently got a used DVX100 (not A or B) and when i go to flip the focus to auto i get a warning on the screen that says "MF Only" and the camera stays in manual focus. Also, when i try to engage the gain switch to M or H, nothing happens. I checked the menus and the M & H settings are set to 9db and 12db.

Is there something i'm missing?

Thanks,
Mike

There's no autofocus in progressive modes, as a quick Google search would have shown. For the gain setting, that's odd and I don't have an answer for it. You should definitely see the difference. It might be a menu setting somewhere, but since I no longer have one I can't check.

I had a DVX100 years ago and I'm sure there is a way to unlock them. Hopefully you received a manual with the camera. If not google it and I'm sure you will get to the bottom of it.

i have an original DVX100

you can't have gain or auto focus while the camera is in progressive mode. for some reason panasonic only gave you those features when you're shooting interlaced.

they didn't want people to produce shitty looking progressive footage, so they made it a cinema only camera. like a digital 16mm camera of sorts.

but they realised how stupid that was and brought out the undated DVX100A. which also has cleaner footage.
