Metalcore Music Video

Ok, Ok, I got the lyrics down pat, ready.

Bleeeeeeeeeh Bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh
Waaaaaaaaaah Bleeeeeeeh Bleeeeeeeeeeh Bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh.

Am I close?

I thought the video reflected very well the feel of the music. Great desaturated shaky look.

Well what can I say? That was an awsomely shot performance video. I'm also interested in how you got all the "shakiness"? Also, what did you do on one shot w/ a close up of the bass and the string vibrates slowly back and forth, very cool. Does the original look that washed out or was it the compression?

I think you owe scharky $3, those are the exact lyrics I heard as well. j/k, but I did taste a bit of killswitch in em, and I see your're a fan. They do kick ass (killswitch), I saw em on the Taste of Chaos in Sac.

Great job!

Hey guys ... thanks for the feedback. Keep it comin :-)

The shakey camera work is simply a function of high shutter rate (minimum 500 - crank up the lights!) and knowing the songs really really well. With the high shutter and the right hand shaking (in rhythm), you can get a really cool -- almost slo-mo kind of effect. But at the same time a really charged feeling.

The desaturation, unfortunately, is the result of compression. The "real life" version looks pretty sweet. Although, I did pull the colors down about 60-70% and added a bit of green. So maybe the answer is yes and no.

The bass string is a fun trick. Should I tell you? Hmmm... why not?! Just tune that sucker as far down as you can...and again, with a high shutter speed and a little practice you can get some cool looks. (If you saw that huumming bird post recently, it's a simillar effect, the string is vibrating at a rate that is close to the shutter speed, so you get a weird slo-mo kind of look). Take a few takes .. but worth it. I'll post another vid in about a week where I got an even better string effect.

AND SCHARKY - YOU DEFINITELY WIN THE $3 BRO !!! You should work as an cryptologist!

Thats a pretty sweet vid. totally reflected the tunes. loves the rythem shake and the bass string effect. Really liked the greens in the midtones and the total metal feel. Cheers.

thanks for posting both mac and pc links, its so annoying when people dont do that, oh ya, the click and save as thing is so annoying too, thanks for not doing that.
but anyway, i thought the video was awsome, it was all really tight, thanks for posting it.

i liked it. i mean, you're pretty limited with what you can do concept-wise for a video with any '-core' band, this is pretty much it. but as far as they go, i liked it. i like the desaturated colors +green... i think it worked real well in the garage setting. the only thing i would have added is a 50gal. barrel with a fire in it... but that's just the old school Biohazard in me. rock on.

I love the shutter speed idea. Defo gonna play around with dat.
For the band in the garage or rooftop type of vid this is one of the best i've sheen...get them in a graveyard!!!!
Good work fella!

Brilliant editing, this piece is REALLY inspiring, definitely could compete with anything out there in MTV land.. (and even though I'm a big Chopin/Vivaldi fan, I also love an adrenaline blast! And a little scratchin' in the background was cool)

Question:

*forgiveness asked in advance if the questions is: a) lame, b) obvious, c) an insult to your creativity!

(I'm new to editing) On a number of the scenes, the transitions had very strong(visible) horizontal black lines/flicker/transition elements? Not sure if this is how you would describe it, but for some reason it was drawing my attention, probably because it was only there in some of the sequences... just curious if this was intentional, and if so what is the approach used to get that transition vs the others.. on that note, what editor are you using?

Thanks again for sharing some really good amazing work!

Hey Shawn -- Thanks man. Actually, I'm not quite sure. I don't see the lines, so I'm guessing that it could be a tech thing (bandwidth, compression artifact-type things, etc.).

But my system =
G5 dual 2G
FCP 4.5
AE 5.0
A few random plug-ins

Almost all of my post (98%) is in FCP.

I couldnt help but criticize the music. As far as the video goes I think you needed some scenes that weren't the jittering. It needs something to break it up
