Metal Metal Metal Music Video!!!!!!

Cool. Of all the scenes, I liked the close up face shot of the drummer about 3/4's through the video. I think if you had a few more of those intense musician close-up action clips, there would be more musical energy overall. Oddly enough...there was something a bit operatic about it. I guess..the elegant table setting upfront and at the end contributed to it somewhat. Ya know...I wonder how it would look, if you took that original gothic theme and scattered it throughout the piece? The band had a heavy gothic them going anyway.

Tell me more about the MB settings you used?

Thanks,
B.

Thanks so much. The MB setting I used was just Diffused Light preset and Bleached Bypass. I played with both of them to fit what I wanted. The reason I used MB in the first place was because the dinner scene was a little dark so the footage had too much noise. I was flipping out! I played with MB and it smoothed things right out.

Yo Idog, great work love all the shots, just curious can you callab on video,,,,,,
how many camaras? CC? Anything that comes to mind?
Nice work again, that drummer is ****ing unreal!

I always use just one camera. Make the band work and play the song many times. I sometime do some fun stuff with white balancing through gels. But most of the time I just shoot it white balanced to white and play in post. Hey Congrats on the World Series! Baseball is a mess right now out here in Boston.

Colors came out very fresh and crisp...very nice. Band shot at 24P 1/250? I heard rendering MB filters takes forever?

Everyone you do gets better and better and better. THis was solid. This band should be proud. This fits the mold, this is MTV worthy (Whatever the high standard is). Nice job.

Love your work.

(Why? Whay can't they just sing like normal people?)

that was amazing.

great work

did you have a person push you on a dolly back and forth while they played?

IDOG,

Try emphasising the singer's face more when you get to the intense part of the screams. Through out the video their were times when I wish you just held for a bit longer on the vocalist. I think a lot of the cuts were unecessarily fast and didn't really go with the rythm of the song (just because the music is fast doesn't mean ALL your cuts should be).

Also, as John mentioned, you have great production value and it fits the mold. Ever thought about doing something that is not so formulated? You have found a great style now I would like to see you do something different with it!

On the flipside however, not everyone gets to make that decision and a lot of bands will say "I want our video to be like so an so did with theirs" - but I am determined that people with talent, like yours, should be breaking the mold.

Other then that good job, glad to see your keeping the metal alive!!

IDOG,
Very cool video....I am a sucker for the performance type videos with a little bit of narration in them. Nice color and editing.
Thanks for sharing!
...D...

Looks great, I especially like the wide shots. Green/Orange feel.

Is this shot with just the DVX lens? Some of the shots look very shallow DOF.

Where did you shoot this? Was it in Boston? I'm looking for some grungy internals for this next video.

If you don't mind giving away your locations, any suggestions would be great.

Great job.

Peace.

PS: this music scares me

My sentiment exactly!

yeah man, the vid looks sweet! it really seems to match the song, and i like what you did with the CC. gives it a good effect and contrast, even if you were covering stuff up, haha.

can't wait to see some more stuff from you!

Woh,
Got up this morning and had all these comments. Thanks a lot for taking the time watch guys.

Lloyde: Yes I was on a doorway dolly on a curved track and I had a guy pushing me while my partner was sitting in a chair watching the playback monitor ripping on my shots. You can see photo from the shoot here: http://www.killswitch.tv/photo/

John Hudson & Mortimer: Its really funny how you guys both said I do something less formulated. I have been feeling that way about my work lately. I feel it is getting stale. My next video (which I am desperately trying to get a good budget from the label as we speak) I plan on doing something very different. Very different. I want to tell you guys my idea but I feel that I can't desribe it nearly as well as just seeing it. Plus I don't want someone to rip my idea. HAHA. I guess I will just show you when it is filmed. But anyway, thanks so much for your comments. This is the only place I post about my work because I feel that this is the only place that people really watch your work. Thanks again guys.

Escozooz(Matt): Yes I used a stock lens on that video. A .7x wide, zoom through. As far as it goes for the location. Bro, the place is a real pain in the ass! The power in the place sucks bad! We shot the band on the 8th floor and we had to bring a 6k watt generator up to the roof (10th fl) because the elevator was broken. Plus the place is not free. I know the owner pretty well but he charges me everytime I enter the building. He charges me $400/ a day. Its in NH. It is really not worth it bro. A real headache.
By the way, I watched your DL "Mirror" video a while back. Killer, just killer man. Great flow to te peice. Good colors and shots. Very realistic. I loved it.

I like that video alot. Like somepeople said earlier, I would say it is very high-end looking, to MTV status level. If anything some of the shots at the dinner table looked a little less film-like then the rest, but either way it was amazing. But I do have a question for you guys, because i've never shot on a dolly before and I was wondering if you guys know of any places where I could buy on and/or tips/tricks on making some.

Also, this was all shot on the DVX100a right?

RealityMS - I have seen some great skatboard dollies here and there. I think John Hudson had one of the better looking ones. Ask him. I alway rent one because they are only $25 to rent where I go and the thing has big go cart wheels so you can use it on a semi smooth serface. you can see me riding one on a track in some of these picks:
