Metal cold shoe on DSLR

Would there be any problems. electrically if a metal cold shoe ( from a led light) were to be mounted on a HDSLR hot shoe on the camera. Would the contacts made for the TTL flash units on the camera hot shoe not short themselves and cause problems by using an all metal flash shoe? I am asking because the plastic shoe on my led light seems to be weak and would break off at any time and a metal one is available to replace it. Thanks

I don't know why they would. There are plenty of stereo microphones that have metal hot shoe mounts that don't short out anything on the camera when mounted.

Update: And if I remember the contacts on the hot shoe mount are recessed so that pins have to drop down from e.g. flash to make contact with the connectors.

I have a metal hot-shoe-to-1/4" adapter permanently installed in my DSLR, and I've never had a problem with it - ymmv
