Metabones speedbooster with AF105a

Have just mounted an Metabones Speedbooster to a Nikon 50mm f2. Mounting onto the AF100 went fine, except that I had to remove the collar from the metabones to clear the flange on the Af100. Looks good through the viewfinder, but am wondering about the dial on the Metabones. It doesn't seem to change anything! What is it supposed to do? Also, since i am all on manual, I have no idea what f stop I am at!

Anyone have any experience with this lens/cam combination? How about other Nikon lenses?

Did you turn the iris ring on the adapter to f/8 before you attached the lens? You have to do that so that the adapter will control the iris.

I'm using the SB with my AF100 almost exclusively... lenses include a set of Leica R primes w/ Nikon mount conversion, a Micro-Nikkor 55/3.5, converted M42-mount SMC Macro-Takumar 100/4, and a couple of Nikon-G zooms (Tokina 11-16/2.8, Sigma 50-150/2.8). I've sampled a few normal-range zooms but haven't settled on one to replace my 4/3 Leica D 14-50/2.8-3.5.

With any G-lens, yep, you have to have the SB set to 8 before mounting the lens.

As to deducing your aperture with a G-lens, you'll have to calibrate it... mount a lens with visible f-stops at a blank medium-lit wall, activate the AF's spot meter, and take readings of the spot IRE value at each f-stop. Then mount your g-lens/adapter combo and reference which number correlates to which approximate f-stop. If it's something you'll need to know precisely later on, you can print and laminate a small biz-card with the info and keep it with the camera.

How is the Speedbooster/Tokina 11-16 combo? Any vignetting?

OPPS, Just read your other post mcbob:

"Some G-mount lenses designed for DX sensors will vignette with the SB (soft or outright black corners). There's seemingly no rhyme or reason to forecast which ones vignette (Nikon 18-200, 18-300, 16-85, Tokina 16-50, Sigma 17-70 @17-25, Tokina 11-16 @ 11, for examples) and which ones don't (Nikon 35/1.8, 17-55, Sigma 10-20, Sigma 17-50, Sigma 50-150)"
