Metabones Speed Booster

Here we go. Not all the stops, just wide, ran out of time. Also first test I'm aware of using Nikon primes, and adapter, canon speedbooster, fs700. Moved camera in between to get framing similar again (fov change though and on tripod angled down as got closer).

85mm f1.4 (and 100% crops)
50mm f1.4
135 f2 (only took sb shot)

Hi! Just received my EF to NEX speed booster today. I noticed that the lens part is on threads and it's slightly loose. It rattles if you shake the adapter. Has anyone else noticed this? Should I try to screw it all the way to make it tight? OR are the threads there for adjustment? There is no manual inside to explain this.

I had a similar issue with my "original" Metabones adapter, and yes you should tighten the screws. I posted about this on another thread, re-posting it here: "I've had something similar with my regular Metabones adapter: almost had a heart attack! There's a thin metal ring on the side that connects to the lens and it is attached with four small philips head screws. When those screws loosen (and this happens more often than I would like), the lens loses contact with the adapter and the result of this is sometimes a "frozen" camera."

I once changed lenses in the field and got the "frozen" camera. Tightening the screws on the Metabones solved the problem....however, over time the screws will loosen again....

Yep, it's definately not supposed to rattle the way it is! It's this little screw that's unhinged http://www.metabones.com/smart-adapter-operation-manual/155-infinity-adjustment-speed-booster-only. Upsetting because this also means my infinity focus is way off! How on earth do I set it? Trial and error?

Not a very pleasent thing to encounter after paying 600 USD for this.

Ah, I see. Your problem that you are having with your Speed Booster is different than the problem I have experienced with my original Metabones adapter. My issue is with four little screws in the "flat" ring (the ring that faces upwards in the picture in the link you posted).

Disappointing that you are experiencing this, but apparently loose screws are not uncommon with Metabones products...

I have the Zeiss ZE, 28mm,35mm f2,50mm f1.4 and 85mm, using them with the FS700 they all freeze the camera with the speedbooster. Canon EF L zooms all work fine (17-40,24-105,70-200) as does the standard original Metabones adaptor with the Zeiss's and the FS700.
Anybody else having speed booster, ZE, FS700 issues? Metabones says they should work.....

Tried both changing without switching off and switching camera off. Same result-frozen. The standard Metabones allows you to change Zeiss lenses without having to switch off.

Thanks, I have- they said they should work. I'm just looking for others who have the same setup to verify if they are having the same issue.

I have a set of Zeiss ZF lenses with the X-Circle adapters (Nikon to Canon EF). When I open the FS700 with the ZF Lens on the Speedbooster, it freezes the cam. But when i open the cam without any Lens on, and then put the Lens afterward, it's OK. I can change Lens without freezing as long as the cam stays open.

I tried one of my Lens with a cheap Nikon to Canon adapter ( the cinevate one) , and it doesn't freeze the cam. The difference between the two is that the electronic connectors of the Speedbooster touches the metal ring of the X-Circle adapters, while the cheap adapters doesn't have the same metal ring, so there is no contact. Leitax adapters seem similar to the X-Circle one, so I presume there should be the same problem. Unless the version with the electronic chip send an appropriate signal that doesn't freeze the FS700?? Can anyone confirm?

i don't have any problem with my Canon EF lenses, or my Tokina.

What's weird is that I never had this freezing problem with the original metabones adapter. But since i tried the Speedbooster on my FS700, and then put back the original one, now it has the same freezing problem !!

There' s definitely a problem in the way the Speedbooster communicate with the cam...

I think both the product page and the FAQ on the Metabones site warns against lens mount adapters which shorts the electrical contacts, and this is exactly what is happening. A simple remedy is simply taping the adapter at the appropriate place. (You have to tape the entire path of travel as you rotate the adapter to mount it.)

oh great, I'll try to tape the adapter then... Will let you know if it works

EDIT: great, it works! thanks for the help

Have the same problem with Zeiss lenses with a native ef mount.

Can you confirm which camera and lenses don't work for you? Which lenses you have tried? Does it completely freeze the camera?
Thanks.

questio for owners of both old and new ( with speedbooster ) metabones EOS - NEX adapters:

are the dimensions of both ( thickness ) the same.. or optical element makes adapter less tick ????

Standard (old) adaptor is 32mm thick, the speedbooster is 27mm thick- EF to NEX.
Would still love to hear from Anybody using the FS700 and Zeiss ZE glass specifically.

Got my speedbooster in the mail, today. I've been testing it with several Canon super-tele's. First thing I notice is a really weird bokeh. Check this attached file...
It was shot with a canon 50-200 f/2.8, USM IS zoom lens
