Metabones Speed Booster Adapter - Full Frame FOV on an E-Mount Camera

I missed the thread if this has been mentioned before but Metabones have been previewing a new adapter that essentially scales the image from a full-frame lens so that it fits the FS100 sensor. Effectively giving you the same FOV as a 5D, etc.

There's a review here: http://bnaro.com/b/metabones-speed-booster-an-unbelievable-adapter/

If it works as promised, I would think it was a must-have accessory that would give the FS100 a whole new lease of life.

I just read the article on Philip Bloom's site. It sounds very interesting. Looks like the e-mount to ef version will be out first. I have Nikon, not Canon, lenses. If a Nikon version appears, I would give it serious consideration since it basically doubles the number of lenses you have and speeds them up.

Couldn't use your Nikon glass with a canon adaptor on the EF to e-mount for the FS100?

Do you mean Nikon lens --> Nik to EF adapter --> to Speed Booster --> FS100? Good point. Maybe. I have two Nikon to EF adapters but neither is 'smart', so there would no electronic connection.

Yes, exactly. As long as there's not a lot of slop on the Nikkor to EF adaptors, you should be good. My Nikkor glass is all manual aperture so no real need for electronic connection.

Yes, if there was no Nikon model of the speed booster, I would consider it, but the Metabones site mentions that they're going to release a Nikon version.

I emailed Metabones the other day, asking specifically about a smart adapter that would work with even Nikon G lenses. They told me that a Nikon version is already in their roadmap of products, however not a smart version. (When I read the "white papers" on the speed booster there were actually pictures of it with Nikon lenses being tested.)

Yeah the nikon version may be months away, but it will probably only cost $400 instead of $600 since it has no electronics. So I guess its a matter of how much you like to save money and how much you want it as soon as possible. The electronic canon version may be useful since it opens up the possibility of using canon mount lenses as well which are quite popular. Also zeiss and others started releasing some of their cine lenses in canon mounts so it might be a good option to have.

They should just make a passive mount with interchanganle mount.

-they just produce one mount with reducer. Faster and efficient productionwise
-they can focus on one mount at a time

I do this. I have Zeiss ZF glass which I use a Fotodiox Pro Nikon to EOS adapter then attach that to my Metabones EOS to NEX adapter and it works perfect, infinity focus and all. Save me time of switching and the hassle of having to deal with carrying an extra adapter.

since the Metabones II and Fotodiox Pro are very solid adapters = zero play.

That's good to know. I'm becoming convinced that it would make more sense to get the Ef version of this Speed Booster. Then I can use it with the Nikon lens (with additional adapter) and, if I need to, Canon (though I recently sold all my Canon lenses with my 7d).

Just remember that there is no aperture control on the Fotodiox adapter, so in the case of Nikon G lenses, you would not be able to change the f-Stop. Since I own a Nikon 24-70 G lens, I am interested in a Metabones speed booster that would at least work like my MTF adapter with mechanical f-stop control built in.

Howdy, New member here with a FS100 package. I do not presently own any full frame still camera lenses, so I've been planning on sticking to A-mount in order to use them with the LA-EA2 for better follow focus. I wish that Metabones would make their speed-booster adapter in A-Mount and not just canon and Nikon. That way at least I could buy A-mount lenses only, and have the option of using them with the LA-EA2, OR with the Speed-Booster. (My shopping list for new lenses is long enough already, C'mon Zeiss with those additional E-Mount Primes!)

Anyone else getting a noticeable light fall off towards the corners? I think it's quite apparent to be honest. I even spotted it with my 24-70 set to 70mm and 3.5

I also got those edges, but only testet it with my Tokina 11-16 that is not the right lens for the adapter.
The thing is that I got huge vignette from 11-14, at 14 the vignette vanishes, but in the corners there is still a light fall off.
I got no chance to test it with other lenses yet, but because from 14-16 there is no noticable change in the corners,
I believe that the light fall off is here to stay …
