Well, they finally did it:

A PL-mount Speedbooster for E-mount cameras.

Paired with the FS7ii's positive-locking E-mount, this could be pretty incredible - The CP.2s, CZ.2s, Sigma Cine Primes, Schneider Xenons, Xeens and the new Tokinas all become a stop faster with a wider FoV.

A set of the new Sigma Cine Primes would literally become faster than Master Primes(!), and the CZ.2s become lightweight T/2 zooms(!).

Very, very cool.

I'd really like to have an FS7ii now.

How would people feel if the F5/55 replacement came with locking e mount of the FS7 mkII?

To rephrase that question, is the new locking e mount tough enough for the job?

Looks like it is, allied to the new stronger front of the camera.

If Sony could convince the buyers of F5/55 level cameras that is the case then it could be a very interesting development.

Maybe Metabones knows something we don't.

True. I certainly feel there's little point using this adapter on the regular mk1 FS7 though.

Even using relatively lightweight OCT-19 spherical Lomo lenses on the FS7 with a rock solid adapter caused so much flex at the e-mount that every refocus whether by hand or wireless FF had a little bump to it at the start.

Not for people who already have PL mount lenses though :).. there would have to be an option..or adaptor as they have now.. as F5/55 isnt native PL.. esp if Sony want at least the F55 to be a high end camera.. as all the high end lens (and rentals) are PL.. totally E mount only I cant see happening..

If the bulkhead and positive locking mechanism is 'Pro' enough to hold heavy PL glass should it matter if the mount is E or FZ?

You're very likely right Donny and Sony will keep the status quo for the F55 level camera but it would be interesting if they went with E Mount.

Seems strange to me....
Putting a $700 piece of glass between the sensor and a $30K + PL lens ? No Thanks?

Maybe meant for lower end PL lenses, but even still...

Is there an EZ to E mount adaptor.. ? I like the look of these "cheaper" zooms.. and could be handy when I dont want the weight, risk of damage to the CN7.. but dont think I can use them on an F5..?.. seems like something a 3rd party company would make money on now with these lenses coming out..?.. yes agree Im sure the Fs7II Pos lock and fortified front assembly could deal with some think like a CN7.. with rod support for sure.. I,d like a multi mount camera.. PL/E/EF not sure such a thing could ever happen.. ?

A revised version of the FZ mount that can be adapted to E-mount (or better yet, support speedboosters of it's own) would be better. But as an owner of the Zeiss CZ.2 zooms, this is a sublimely enticing piece of kit - I could turn my lenses into a 19.5-57mm T/2 and a 50-142mm T/2, with all the optical goodness that the CZ.2s provide.

That would be awesome.

Nice!

Its gonna be tough leaving a camera system that can take speedboosters. I just filmed a musicvideo in Kuala Lumpur on a speedboosted 24 and 50 f1.4. Mostly shooting at night, only available lights. Shot at f1.0-f1.2 which made it possible to shoot the whole thing at 100/s. Crazy how sensitive that system with an FS7 became, and I really dig how a boosted 24 could separate the subjects from the background even when they were like 3 meters away. I guess you would get the same result with a 17 f1.0 lens, but havent seen many of those!

PL mount is nice but this SB will only work for the new crop of retrofocal PL lenses that are based on AF couterparts. Very few traditional cookes Zeisss angenieux would have the rear element clear the speed booster glass. PL mount is just a mount- the glass remains where it was. You could use PL to EF/Fmount adapter and the old EF/Fmount to e mount speed booster. Speedboosters do not clear the FZ mount front glass either....
It looks like MB is trying to fill every little nitch at this point with the speed booster glass.

Very few traditional lenses have the Vistavision coverage to work with this anyway, so I don't think that's all that big of a deal. I've just emailed Metabones for confirmation of the deepest possible lens throat a PL-mount lens could have and still fit safely on this Speedbooster.
