Metabones Leica R Lens to Sony NEX Speed Booster on FS100

Has anyone out there had a chance to use this with
Leica R glass preferably the
Summicron R 50/2
Summicron R 35/2

If so have you had any problems with the flange issue.
Metabones states there are some issues with the
Summicron R 50/2. It's been out long enough that I am
sure someone out there has tried this. I am just currious
as I own both of these lense's. Thanks in advance Gary

The lenses listed with issues come from the protrusion (a thin metal "shelf") above the rear glass. All you need to do to make them work is take a dremel cutoff wheel to your precious Leica lens and hack it off.

Well to bad cause that's not going to happen. Thanks for the response.

are you actually shooting still photos on a leica r camera?
No aly324 I am using the FS100 and I use Leica R glass. I wanted to get a metabones adapter but if I have to alter my lenses then it's not an option.

oh no sorry, i got that. i'm just wondering if you're reluctant to alter the lenses because you still use them for photography, or for some other reason (financial or ethical or sentimental). i've had a bunch of contax zeiss lenses modded, but i've recently taken to using them to shoot photos on an old contax camera that came with one of them. just chatting really.

I have the same apprehension about modding my 50/2... I'm leaning towards selling it and buying a Summilux 50 instead, which doesn't have the issue.

My reason is that Leica glass is very expensive good but expensive, if I modify them it greatly decreases the value if I ever want to sell them.

I decided to hold off on the Leica adapter, but jumped at the Nikon G Speedbooster. I bought Fotodiox Pro Leica R-Nikon replacement bayonet mounts - not a hardship as I don't own any Leica bodies. As you'd guess, they replace the bayonet mount. It's a fully reversible procedure - you unscrew the factory inner rear plate, mounting flange, and cams, and store them away until you want to switch back. There's adequate room inside the Nikon version to fit my Elmarit-R 28 and Summicron-R 50, rear protrusions and all.

Leitax's Leica R replacement mounts allow options for clickless apertures (and half-stop and full-stop clicks). Pretty intrigued by that.

So you bought the Nikon G to E mount Speed Booster and then put a Nikon - Leica mount from Fotodiox on your Leica R 50 mm.
so you could mount it on the Speed Booster correct?

I also wanted to ask if you think that the results you are getting with your leica's and the Speed Booster are a much
better look than with the lenses themselves? Thanks in advance Gary

Actually the Nikon G to MFT Speedbooster, but they're the same on the lens end. I have a few Nikon-mount lenses that were the primary beneficiaries of buying that SB.

I can't say that the results of the boosted R's are "better," just "different" and welcomed... it's a lot like owning an inverse teleconverter, it yields a little extra speed and sharpness (moreso speed) at the expense of reach, and may or may not be suitable for every situation.

Here are two jpgs I linked a short bit after putting the thing together, GH2, identical manual settings, one taken with Leica Summicron-R 50 @f2 + Nikon Speedbooster (35/1.4 equivalent), one taken from (just about) the same position with non-boosted Leica Summilux-R 35 @f1.4.

They're different, but if don't happen to own a $3K Summilux-35, the boosted Summicron-50 seems to do a decent impersonation.

I bought this speedbooster and I'm seeing no issues with the summilux 50mm f/1.4, elmarit 35mm f/2.8, and elmarit 24mm f/2.8 (note: this one was already shaved)

Thanks for the links to the pics. So, I would venture to say that you are not using this set up with an FS100 but a GH2 correct?

Yes, I have heard this but my issue is using it with Summicron R 50/2 and
Summicron R 35/2. From what I understand I will have to change the lense
mount on my Leica to Nikon using the Fotodiox mount then mount it to the
Nikon G to E Speed Booster.
