Message to Jarred

Re: Message to Jarred

Guest posting doesn’t bother me. Neither would requiring someone to register to post. However, I would very much oppose a rule, like they have on sites like the Democratic Underground, that you have to post in existing threads X number of times before you can start your own. That’s just unfriendly.

Re: Message to Jarred

..maybe it should just be something like

"you must be capable of conversing with people at an intelectual level greater than that of a rock"

..no offense meant to any guests there.. im just being silly

Re: Message to Jarred

..i can see it now.....

some guy with a rock shaped head starts typing a long hate letter to jarred about that mean ol' loser guy making fun of him. LOL

Re: Message to Jarred

Neil, tell me again how you settled on such a profound user name? I'm sure you've been asked this many times :) And what's with the Atari logo, is that where you work?

Re: Message to Jarred

..its got a nice ring to it! i liked the way it combined bad english with self defamation. ..and ive never looked back. sides, i just cant do the whole thing where i try too hard to be cool or popular... so i carried it over from 2-pop when DVXUser was taking its first breaths, and now i feels it exemplifies my desire to appear, and feel on the bottom to give me the drive to always work harder and learn and excel.

i do not work for atari . i thought it was just sort of cool retro, and decided that it sort of showed my relaxed, and down to earth (can i really claim that of myself? ) personality. and i just never bothered to change it beyond momentarily.. and then KAI was nice enough to make me a good looking ATARI logo instead of the original one i had which was really dumb looking.. so im pretty content where i am. ;)

Re: Message to Jarred

Thanks for sharing. I guess it's better than "IAMGREATFILMMAKER"...that would be a little pompous.

Re: Message to Jarred

I think the general philosophy around here is to leave things fairly open unless something is causing a significant problem. If we start getting a bunch of drive-by trash postings, I'll be the first to agree with restricting guest users, but it doesn't seem like more than a sporadic problem. However, if it's bugging a lot of regular users--then it's definitely cool with me to turn off the guest option. Let one of us mods know if you see a garbage post--we try to delete 'em, but there's a lot of traffic on the board these days. We'll also suspend or ban users that cause persistent problems--fortunately a rare occurence.

Re: Message to Jarred

Unfortunately, you can't ban a guest....

But I agree that the problem is sporadic at the moment

Re: Message to Jarred

You can ban people on an IP basis. You can actually ban Guests in that manner... if they have a dynamic IP though, it doesn't quite work as they can keep changing it. Usually people don't go through all that trouble though...

I'm cool either way... guest posting is fine, but so is signing up to post... all other forums i've run I've required people to sign up to post simply to have their e-mails in case they break the rules, you can remind them with a gentle e-mail not to do it again...

Re: Message to Jarred

I haven't felt that the signal-to-noise ratio on this forum has become unacceptable. The worst flame war I saw here was the whole political discussion we had about the Iraq war, which probably drove off Anartiste and others for a time. I can't get self-righteous because I certainly fired a few scuds myself.

I suppose we could lock out guest posts if they become too bothersome, but my tolerance level hasn't been pinged yet.

Re: Message to Jarred

Yeah I think as long as we kinda just let goofballs that they arn't wanted it should be kinda fine.

Re: Message to Jarred

Anartiste was a fun dude. Damn, I remember the old days with those wars! I fired my share of Patriots during that exchange. I know a few of you remember Milkprod! (Just think Se7en)
