Merlin Or Glidecam 4000

I'm also interested in knowing how these could work with an adapter (Brevis in my case), or will we have to go to the next level?

Yes, after taking the advice of many on this site, I bought the Merlin. It's quick to set up, balances perfectly and glides very smoothly.

I would totally recommend this great bit of kit.

Glad you are happy with your Merlin. :)

i have a 35mm adapter. It seems like neither of these would really work. Anyone have any examples / ideas of what type of setup I would need

You'd need a Steadicam designed for 35mm work.

The Flyer can just fly the lightest 35mm adapter setups. Once you add in remote follow focus, and all ther other bits n' peices that are necesarry for 35mm work, you start to cross up out of Flyer teretory into the bigger rigs.

Wireless Follow Focus alone will cost you about $4k. That's the cost of 35mm work.

Ok, it's not quite *that* bad .. but anything less will start to limit your shooting options.

Hi Withuk,

Phone or email James Elias at Tiffen Europe and go to their office and he will show you the merlin in action. Hes the world authority on them, hes the guy that teaches the merlin workshops, and he can do some quite impressive stuff with a merlin.

Im pretty sure once you have been shown how to use it properly then you will have no doubts in your mind.

Ive used both and the glidecam hurts your wrist as it pulls your hand forwards in a twisting motion.

Have a look in my topic in the 35mm adapter section. I have been developing an affordable remote follow focus system for afew months and it will be ready for shipping in about a month. Its wireless, 500m range, has programmable stop buttons (so you dont damage the lens) can be used wired if you want to. It comes with receiver and motor in a case for about £350 (about $700)
