F35: Merging SDI

Hi,

Not trying to reinvent the wheel here but trying to shed as much weight as possible.

Now from what research I can find, the ProRes recording from the 7Q, and a PIX e5 is identical when it comes to actual data content? Yes I know you need to merge the SDI stream, but other than that, the footage should be same.

I like the 7Q for monitoring, but the system is a bit clunky, the record with touch is a bit flimsy, and the fact that you have to eject the card each time, will add up in time.

So I’m wondering, what are the option for merging the two 1.5g streams into one 3G one. And is there a small one out there that could work for onboard?

If I remember correctly, AJA has a dual 1.5G to 3G box, however from other peoples' posts, the issue you run into is adding another module into the data loop, and it's generally? safer to have less stops or pieces in the puzzle between the camera and recorder, less pieces to potentially fail along the way.
I don't own a PIX e5, so I can't compare, but I'd maybe check the bitrate it records at vs the Odyssey's if that data is available. Probably not a huge difference if there is one though.

Figured it out.

Bought a used 3GM, and it works great! Going to build the 3GM into the IF box and make into a one SDI output.
