Merantau feature film - HPX500 & pro35

Awesome! Very cool looking picture, I hope i get to see it. I've used the Pro35 with Ultra Primes on my HPX500 and I love the set up. A little jelous that you got to shoot a whole movie with it. Good work!!

Can you share some of your camera setting?

Again great job!

Hmmm I presume you mean the in-cam settings.
I would love to give you the detailed settings we used, but the notes I have just dug out I have handy are in their usual state of chaos.
To be honest, the settings we ended up on were nothing beyond the norm, we started with a very general setup, and during camera tests, tweaked here and there, detail bumped down, etc., but it was a pretty standard setup.
From memory only, bearing in mind the camera tests were a good 8 months or so ago, I would hazard a guess at Detail -5 or -6, chroma level -2 (but I think we probably bumped this up a little in testing), chroma phase I'm not 100% sure but I suspect I would have bumped this into the negatives if anything. Most other settings were at standard "Cine" settings.
The one we fiddled with scene to scene, probably more than I would normally, was color temp settings, coming off fresh balancing. Not a dramatic amount as I prefer post tweaks. And a fair amount of in cam temperature changes were to show a rough example on the production monitor for the director to see.

So yea, not very useful info Im afraid, and I hope I understood what you were asking for, if not let me know!

Wow!!!

What kind od handles are you using on rod support??

Thanks, d

I think they were arri handles, or a derivative of them. s4 or s3 mayyyybe, but I wouldnt swear to it - I think they were from my assistant's private stash . We had two sets - I used a double handle-bar with remote start stop on the right, and the Cam B setup had a single grip set, though cam B was generally on steadicam through a lot of the shoot.
And luckily my awesome assistant made a nice basic shoulder cushion that strapped on the body - a real shoulder-saver!

NICE! Is the August release date a USA release as well? If not, when can we expect to see it. Will there be a Blu-ray version?

Wow, great trialer.
love the behind-the-scene video's too!!

btw, if you don't mind can I ask what kind of budget you had for this film?

Ok first I would like to say amazing stuff! The one thing I would say is that the trailer gave us to much. Maybe cut a 30 second trailer? Or 1:30 second trailer? It seemed to start a tad slow but boy did it pick up. I would actually recommend taking the footage and having a super professional trailer editor get there hands on this. They can make it a must see! Very good job!
