In the menu under AV IN/OUT SETUP, when do you choose 720p or 1080i?

Is the answer dependent on what type of moniter you are viewing the footage on?

My TV is 1080i, so would I want to set the AV IN/OUT SETUP to 1080i even though my footage was filmed at 720pN?
 
I don't think it makes any difference if the setting is 1080i or 720p if viewing either 720p or 1080i footage to any HD monitor. But if you want to watch HD footage on an SD monitor you do need to switch to 480i. I have not tried shooting 480i footage and viewing that on an HD monitor. Something else to try tomorrow.
