im a memeber for7 years now , i have learned a lot from dvxuser , i guess if it wasnt for this forum i wont be having a job :) , since 2008 i have been making videos for a living , and im honored to post this short film / music video in here , i shot it steadicam operater , wrote it , edited , directed and some fx that i have done myself it was small crew of 4 people
shot with af100 25 P
lens used most of the time nikon 17 , 35 mm 2.8
couple shot of the indoor CU i used the 50 mm 1.8
it wasnt easy task , sometimes i had to manage over 30 people at once and none of them had experience in film making
its not in english but its no big deal , cause who listen to the lyrics at first:laugh: , well the lyrics are about the artists in the society , where im from ( morocco artist dont make no money they dont have no rights , no air time on the radio or tv they are not protected by the copyrights and all the money goes to the people who knows people , so i came up with the idea of jail mean the land we live in , and and inmates are our society :kali:
please watch enjoy good or bad comments are very welcome

Just some suggestions:

Very
nice opening sequence (especially the vehicle transition from outside to inside), good angles, but overall, it's overexposed (the AF100 does not handle clipping well). In regards to audio, the vehicle noise was too loud. Try adding all of your ambient/fole audio in post and while on set, capture just the speach clearly (your mic was too far away) then mix it out in post.

i do agree , beside the af100 clipping it was my fault i didnt take my time ( learned from it ), i couldve done better if i had extra help , time and external monitor
as for the audio i tried to dub it , but i never got the same feeling or synching so i kept the original , to me it felt better , got that rusty and noisy feeling makes the inmates uncomfortable
thank you for checking it out

While I'll say the exposure values in some shots might be off, you're work is amazing man! You've got mad skills. You just need a light meter and or pay more attention to your waveforms. Keep up the good work!

Great work. Really enjoyed it.

Had a feel that it was made by a crew that were really on to the film making craft and the project.

Loved that these were unique ideas and no cliches ( which would have been an easy trap to fall into considering the setting )

i never used a light meter and i nevr kew how to use it believe it or not , i use the waveform from time to time , thank you guys for the heads up

thanks shooter , always been watching you my self :) your always there to help other and for support , thank you for watching and commenting :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Go with and trust the waveform monitor ( but make a point of understanding it).

Its a very simple and uncomplicated way of exposing digital images.

i dont know if this happen to everyone , but once im on the set i get to exited and to hyper , half of the things that i should be doing i just forget to do so , but once im in post , the regrets come along :( i have to learn to control my self and take my time even if time is critical .

Very nice! I agree with everyone on the camera work.. splendid. I always miss things on set that I regret later. My best solution is to plan, plan, plan. When I have a through shot list, I'm happy. If I get on set and change things up, then great but as long as I thought through the shots first, I find that I have many fewer regrets. I also know that when I'm operating I need to have others looking at things like continuity. There's only so much you can do at one time.

Sometimes you have to push the highlights. I think it's fine as long as it's a choice. I check the WFM and white balance on every setup. Actually I check the WFM on every take, just like focus.

Really cool piece!

A 1st AC or Focus puller is worth their weight in gold.

I dont trust myself to run any camera by myself.

Loved it, very impressed. The blocking especially in the fight scene was great.
Held my attention from beginning to end.
Great Job!

thanks benniles for watching , it took me half day to rehears the choreographe the fight with the extras at the 4th take everyone got it right , at that time everyone thought i was a nut case

What's great about this video is the direction and the felling. Great scenes, nice camera movement and framing. As it was already mentioned it looks like a film crew was doing this. It's not cheaply made. Great!

Regarding overexposure... Yeah it's way of and other production elements also aren't that great. The dolly movement at 02:00 for instance. But this are all things that can be fixed by having a more competent crew and or better gear. This is not a problem. Everybody can do a nice dolly move or everybody can expose correctly, this are all simple things to do and to learn. Directing, story, scene composition, scene flow, etc. now this are the things that most struggle with but you've got it down.

thank you for watching and taking the time to write , for the dolly shot at 2.00 it could've been better , just the dirt was all over my pvc dolly , just couldnt clean it every time i had to repeat the take , and tey were few takes cause of the timing and jumping in the right spot :( i like the fact that they mentioned over exposure , im sure in my next project i have O.E in my mind and i will check the zebra , waveform ligth meter and.... :)
thank you

here the experts of lights and shadows have laserbeam vision. They can see the detail common people cannot see though these details make an overall subconcious impressions on a viewer. To me you were sucessful in engrossing me into the whole thing.
