Meet Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4

I agree, David, camcorder operators who got their workflow down may find small proprietary automatic lenses with severely limited manual controls unattractive. They may be okay with lens controllers in some situations, but certainly are far from the most ergonomic. And considering that many lens controllers currently available for the AF100 have unresolved issues, this option means even less in reality. I recently started playing with Nikkor D lenses and can appreciate their overall performance on a camcorder.

It looks like the Leica lens is optically superior to the Vogtländer. The stills from the Leica I've seen don't show the edge softness that you see in the Vogtländer shots.

From the shots I've seen, at wider apertures the Leica lens appears sharper in the centre of the image, but softer at the edges when compared to the Voightlander at the same apertures. The difference is not huge, but it's there.

Here are a few of screen grabs (3) comparing the 25mm vs the 42.5mm Leica branded lenses. I'm really pleased with the color rendition and overall sharpness from both lenses. They serve me well. Added bonus of consistent color matching (as they should) and overall character. Just adding to this older discussion.... I find it almost interesting that the prices today for the 25mm is almost exactly the same as a couple of years ago.
