Re: Medieval Comedy Trailers on the DVX

Not sure what you are going for if this isn't even part of the actual film you are making. My take is that it looks like a bunch of guys trying to be like Monty Python using a handheld camcorder. :-/

No sleight meant, just giving my take.

Re: Medieval Comedy Trailers on the DVX

..yeah, unfortunaltely its not that i wanted to just say..this looks bad and go learn somthing.. its just that it doesnt even seeem like it was a real attempt to make somthing i would regard as a film. it seems like you guys were just having fun with a camera, and while i applaud you for that, i still think that you just need to soak up any knowledge on what filmmaking is all about. ive never seen a film where someone just stands in front of the camera and does a monolouge. but as you said its not from the film.. so who cares what i think about these "outakes or whatnot" show us some real material so we can give some real advice. that is really my only advice. im not trying to be mean or demeaning in any way, i just dont know what else to say. maybe i shouldnt have commented at all. i dont know.. i guess you should tell me... im clueless..

Re: Medieval Comedy Trailers on the DVX

I have increasingly tried to give my honest take as new 'grabs/footage/ come availble. I want the same in return; I want technical critiques as well as creative.

And I want the truth!

I agree IAL. Just looks like some silly outakes with no compostion, lighting or planning at all. Again, not a huge fan of Python (sue me) so it's like watching something bad of something I already think is bad. :-/

I can be objective though, love or hate the material. I can definatley critique on comp/light/execution etc.

Re: Medieval Comedy Trailers on the DVX

You don't have to explain yourself John... we understand... Hey, look at it at the bright side, it is a comedy and GOSH those teasers made me laugh!!! (one way or the other...)

Re: Medieval Comedy Trailers on the DVX

Thanks Gualbert!

I always feel like I have to add "I sware Im not trying to be a..."

I dont want people getting all upset!

Re: Medieval Comedy Trailers on the DVX

Not really funny to me. Or well shot. Somewhat of a problem on a site that tries to showcase the best the dvx can do.

People who say monty python wasn't well done would be wrong. They used the same castle to represent several and you can never tell through the entire movie. They had such a low budget they couldn't afford horses or to train to ride horses so they used coconuts. They only wish they had the dvx back then.

This just seems like a bunch of guys goofing off...

Re: Medieval Comedy Trailers on the DVX

I concur, Thinspirit.

But I'll hold my judgement until I see the "real" movie.

Re: Medieval Comedy Trailers on the DVX

Okay Everyone,

Since this has become the controversy of the millenium (only joking...), I will put the final statement forward from The Nits.

We appreciate ANY comments from you guys. However, this site is just designed to 'hype' the film (one way or the other ;) ). There is not a trailer on there that has fully produced footage on it, I merely put the link cause the last two trailers had been shot with the DVX in its 24pa mode.

So, as far as cinematography, effects, etc, you won't be able to see that until the official teaser trailer comes out.

I TOTALLY appreciate you guys taking the time to say ANYTHING about our film, we're all in this together as budding filmmakers, documentarians, et al. If we couldn't take criticism then we have NO BUSINESS getting into the, well... the Business!

So keep on commenting, and I'll check back in soon with a link to the new trailer with official footage etc. Hopefully you guys with think the script is funnier, and the camera work better! Good luck on all your projects fellas.

James

Re: Medieval Comedy Trailers on the DVX

Thats what we are here for! I for one havent submitted **** (albeit some lame grabs from screwing off and the MV I worked on with Dan and Casey (Exfilms).

However...

I do get Vegas 4.0 + DVD with Screenblast Acid & Vision Series 1 in like a week. What does this mean? It means I will be finally displaying my 'work' whether it be footage, specs, MV's, scenes whateva'.

I only want the peeps here to give me the honest take. I will not look for pat on the backs and fluff to make me feel good (I'll show my mom and grandma footage if that is the response I want). I want to kow where I excelled and went wrong. Sometimes it's better to step back and let objective eyes look at the work. IT would only help me to have someone tell me "Dude, your lighting in this scene was attrocious!"

Anyway. Keep us in the loop for the finished product. Trust us. When we see something we love WE WILL SAY IT and when we something that just doesnt work WE WILL SAY IT.

I would expect the same!

Re: Medieval Comedy Trailers on the DVX

Well you guys have a good attitude about the whole thing. That'll make our crits much better than if you got really defensive.

It'll be nice to see some clips from the actual movie to comment on.
