Media player for AVCHD / HMC Footage

I have a WD media player and a Panasonic DMP-BD30K blu-ray player, both capable of playing AVCHD file without a choke-up. The blue-ray player has a menu similar to the HMC150 camera and will combine different files together if their format is the same (60i with 60i, 720/24p with 720/24p). The WD media player has a difficult interface. Often when you play a file, after hitting the play button, it will NOT respond for 5 sec, then all of a sudden, the movie will play by skipping first 3 second of the clip.

Get a PS3 it will play the clips with no problem, I often delete bad takes using the PS3. Of course you have to have the one that takes sdhc cards I do not know if the slim does.

PS3 is good for the screening room, but he's looking for something cheap for clients. I've seen several odd, generic Chinese media players out there. Who knows if they play AVCHD or even work correctly.
Maybe give them a USB SD card reader for play on their computer? Burn a CD with VLC player and give that to them.

I get - "oh I have to play it on my computer?" a lot when I talk about the raw footage. Most people expect a DVD to suffice and are usually limited to that when it comes to playback options (on their big screens). I am trying to get my clients out of that mode...

Thanks for the feeback on the WD player - lifepo. Its a little cheaper, but I'm not sure a novice client will like the features and functionality.

Xbox is a good option, but not cost effective and should be purchased by someone that will also use it as a game console...

A $150 panny blu-ray seems the best bet so far and if anything the prices should be coming down more and more...

I am still on the fence...

I second the Panasonic DMP-BD30. Extremely convenient for checking clips... plus there is that whole Blu-Ray/upscaled DVD thing it does :)

Another option that has pretty limited use-applications but may be useful for you:

Use 4GB SDHC cards and burn those files directly to a DVD (or 8GB SD cards on to a dual-layer DVD). Give it to a client with a PS3 or Blu-Ray player and it will play each clip in HD.

Note: I've never tested this (don't have either a PS3 or a Blu-Ray player) but I've heard it works.
