Media offline...?

Hello!

Does someone know why I cannot see some of my clips in Avid Media Composer? They seem to be "Media offline". I'm trying to use 576p DVCPRO 50 footages that I have shot with HVX200. The funniest thing is that I have many clips in that \Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1-folder and I can only see the clips that I do not want to use...and those important clips are "media offline". My luck as always. Any ideas?

Sometimes I cannot see even the whole clip in Media tool that I have copied in to the Avid mediafiles/MXF/1-folder...this is so strange! And sometimes they appear just black in the Media Tool!

Thanks for your help.

Phew, now I got it working finally...I deleted every clip from every Avid harddisks and then i copied the clip that I needed once again...and then it appered in to the media tool...this is so strange, but i'm glad it's working now.

Geesh, I have some -almost nostalgic- memories of the Avid Media Offline screens. It's part of the black magic that all Avid systems have, A.K.A. the Curse of Avid. It's just that the Avid loses track of some stuff (most likely the info of the clips you were last working with) from the media tool folder, but those files are still there. The captured raw OMF files are there. They most likely in most cases haven't disappeared anywhere. With Xpress DV it was some case with a small strange file, that had to be manually removed from the media folder, and then everything was normal in the timeline...

Especially with Firewire hard drives (LaCie comes to mind!) things go media offline easily if you're not careful with the cables and power switch. Usually booting the machine solves the problem.

It sounds like your database got corrupted (which happens rather frequently). For future problems, all you need to do is close Avid, go into your OMFI folder and delete the two database files that start with "msm" then launch Avid. This forces Avid to rebuild the database and it will "find" the "lost" files.
