Measuring rolling shutter: put a number on this issue!

Thanks! That's a reasonably fast rolling shutter, so, one less thing to worry about. It definitely seems you have a winner in your hands, congratulations. Can't wait to get my p4k!!

Captain Hook, thanks for releasing those... very refreshing to see a company be pro-active with getting those numbers out there.

One question... given that the camera uses the same Sony sensor as the GH5s (which I've repeatably measured as sub 12ms for 4096 by 2160, a 25% improvement over the Pocket 4K), are these numbers final, or something that is addressable over time, much as the original RED camera slowly improved the readout speeds over firmware iterations?

Regards,

Jim A.

The p4k has better-than-expected battery life, so maybe the sensor is working at a slower clock speed than in the GH5s

I'm not sure the camera is on a tripod on that test. If it was a more interesting camera I could try to measuere and see if there's more variance than usual, but for this one, I'll just wait for better footage...

I don't see the download button :(

(maybe it's disabled, maybe it's moved from where it used to be years ago: I haven't used vimeo in a long time)

I finally got to measuring these. I added the XT3 results to the table. Not spectacularly great, but not bad at all!

Thanks. Great improvement, you're leading the table now! XD

(very happy with my p4k by the way, awesome little camera)

The old cinema5D methodology was not accurate at all: I'd trust the Canon number more. So, 8.33ms. Probably. XD

So how do I know what's a good rate?
Which is acceptable for fast motion and what is the max that would be considered acceptable?

IMO, usually anything after 16-17 ms starts to get questionable.

Obviously the lower the number the better.

Anything below 14-15 is decent. Below 10 is good.
