ME66/K6 Power question.

The ME66 is powered by the K6 which I know. What I don't understand is correct me if I am wrong but that MIC kit can run off a Double A battery or Phantom power of the camera. So how come you cannot run a short XLR cable from the Mic to the XLR audio input then run phantom power to power the mic? Why is the K6 needed? A friend of mine just bought the DVX100A today and I was trying to explain to him about the ME66 set up and then after I thought about it, I kinda got confused as why you have to have the K6 to power the Mic if you have the options of using a AA battery or phantom power from the camera. Speaking of which does that eat up your camera battery when your using Phantom power?

Re: ME66/K6 Power question.

Hmmm...sounds to me like it's time Jarred built a DIY XLR phantom connector for the M66 (figure the K6 runs anywhere from 150 to 200 a pop)

Re: ME66/K6 Power question.

not really worth it.. that one aa battery lasts like 200 hours.

Re: ME66/K6 Power question.

plus, (not that I have an extra k6 sitting around that i'm willing to disect), i'd be willing to bet there's some necessary transistors, resistors, & caps in there due to the fact that it has bass rolloff, etc. The k6 is really the heart of it... the me66 is just the capsule.

Re: ME66/K6 Power question.

What category on Ebay? There used to be a whole section on Professional Video Equipment on there and every time I do a search it comes up empty.
