me & DVX with Star Wars Actors

This last weekend at Star Wars Celebration Japan, I was given a Full Access MEDIA pass to the 3 day event. It allowed me to go backstage, spend time talking with actors, and shoot some footage for rebelscum.com and theforce.net .

The entire event was so memorable for everyone involved. I spend about 3 hours helping out Anthony Daniels at his autograph booth and we had some great laughs about film-making. I also got a chance to meet Mark Hamill and we talked about Japan; seeing how he spent part of his childhood in Japan like me.

Better yet, Dave Filoni, the director of the new Star Wars Clone Wars movie was introduced to me by my friend Anne from the autograph hall. We briefly talked about directing. He explicitly said this "Remember, its all in the editing...and composition, and lighting!" before signing my camera. Over the next two days I bumped into him a lot back stage and I was really impressed by his positivity and willingness to talk despite me being somewhat of a stranger to him

Here are some grabs from my DVX:

Yeah, that's pretty awesome. Congratulations!

I'm always hesitant to meet Star Wars actors. I'm such a big fan that I don't want to catch them on a bad day or something and have that experience define how I remember them.

One time I threw caution to the wind and stood in line for 2 hours to get something signed by Peter Mayhew and sure enough he was a total jerk to us. Wouldn't take the "time" to personalize the auto to me, "Chris" (5 letters), but writing "CHEWBACCA" (9 letters) under his signature wasn't an issue apparently. Thanks, I think I know what character you played. Never shook my hand or even made eye contact. On the other hand I met Rena Owen at an IMAX screening of AOTC and we talked for like 15 minutes about Once Were Warriors.

Not sure why I'm telling you all that, but I'm glad you had a great time. Must have been a hell of an experience.

It was amazing. Mark, Anthony, and Dave Filoni's willingness to talk for long periods of time was awesome.

If you go here you can see a little video of backstage with some of the actors: http://web.mac.com/kandesan/mackFILM/Welcome.html

yeah Peter Mayhew is getting quite old and wasn't very talkative with anyone really. I was helping him translate from english to japanese and he had me telling the fan that he did not want to take any pictures or personalize the autograph.
