its good for on-camera mounted, one of the best. However, for booming, i suggest the me67 especially if shooting outside.

Nice mike, I prefer the 416 for boom work but they are more expensive. My Me66 has never let me down.

I heard that mic cant be mounted to the DVX.... is that true.

If i can mount it... do i have to purchase something seprate for it then?

Could someone post a picture of how they mount their ME66 on the DVX? I've got one, but when mounted in the mic holder the end seems to be right on the edge of frame at full wide, and in the frame with the windscreen on.

I havent bought a ME66 yet but it CAN be mounted to the camera. What I am told is that you have to slide the mic way back in the mount so that it does not show in the frame. The ME66 with the K6 power module is about 12 inches long!

I know Lightwave Audio makes a mount that will work on the DVX.

For about $700-$800 you can get a short 7 inch Sanken CS-1 short shotgun mic. I have heard good things about this mic as well.

Yeah, that's how I've got it. It's just a really really long mic.

That is why I was looking at the new AT897 not only is it as good"If you belive the press" but it is a couple of inches shorter so it fits the camera better. But as you all know in a perfect world that mic should not be on the camera ;D

what i want to know is if the ME66 is classified as a short shotgun mic then how long is a long shotgun mic? What about that short shotgun that Panasonic makes for the DVX100 you know the one you see in all the ads but doesn't come with the camera! :) I guess they call that the short short shotgun mic!

A less well known alternative to the ME66 is a gun mic by Clock Audio. Its shorter overall because it is not modular, but the slotted part of the tube is the same length, which means its directional capability is similar.

Costs somewher just above the price of Paanasonics own offering, but is much superior both in build and performance. Phantom powered only. Includes bass cut and 10db pad.

Clock Audio is based in Canada and UK - check internet. British made stuff.

You also need a proper elastic suspension, (with shoe mount) such as that made by Beyer Dynamic. Rycote do a much better one, though it costs more its v well made.They also sell the Softie you need to keep the wind out.

The ME66 is OK, its not the best. In Fact Ive put mine in the box and hardly break it out. Ive been working with AKG's blue line mics with hypercardiod capsules. I also have the shot gun cap too. I own two of them and they are kick ass
