Just bought a PANAGOR 28mm f 2.0 MINOLTA MD mount PMC AUTO WIDE-ANGLE lens off of ebay. I have the Rokkor 28mm f2.8, but when I saw this 28mm F2.0 on a generally considered decent Panagor/Kiron lens, I figured I'd take a stab. I saw a lot of these 28mm F2.0 Kiron lenses listed buy it now for $100 to $150, so I figured $55 wasn't bad.
I got the lens yesterday, mounted it on my Metabones Speedbooster and was really happy with the fairly wide angle and shallow depth of field, but as I focused the lens to its infinity position, I noticed immediately it was only focusing about 4ft in front of the lens. I tested it on a normal adapter and same problem. I've contacted the seller and made him aware (it was not disclosed anywhere, nor did he probably know) of the issue. I have opened up and worked on old lenses (to clean fungus on cheap garage sale finds) with pretty good success, but all of them were lenses I didn't really care about, and were just for cleaning.
The lens looks like's it's in great shape. Maybe it was opened to clean fungus off, and not reconfigured properly?
The lens focus markings line up correctly with the stops (ring stops rotating on closest focus mark and infinity focus mark).
One thing I just checked as I was typing this, was this new lens vs my Rokkor 28mm F2.8 lens, and the rear element looks like it is deeper into the back of the lens. Here's a look:

Rokkor F2.8 on the left, Panagor F2.0 on the right.
Obviously it's possible this lens was just designed with a deeper rear element, but I'm suspecting this might be its problem. Anyone have advice/tips on whether you think this is indeed the problem, and if so, how to adjust it? Again, I have disassembled and reassembled old lenses, so I'm not too worried, but there is always a risk and I'm trying to decide if it's worth the risk (that's the way I'm leaning) or just sending it back for a refund, minus $17 in shipping (came from Canada).
Thanks so much for reading and any help. Really appreciate you guys and your insight and wisdom over the years.
