F3: Mbody kickstarter video

Hi all, here's the most recent video we made about a product called Mbody Voice. The fact that it was a Kickstarter project made our job very challenging because there was no actual product yet. We got pretty free hands on how the video should look and it was a great opportunity to use our hometown Tampere as a backdrop for the events. From the beginning I felt that the camera should move with our athletes as much as possible and I knew that it wasn't going to be an easy job to move our franken rigged F3 (is that even a word) smoothly in the heart of the city. We'd need authorization from the city and from the police if we'd use any vehicles anywhere else than on marked roads. So first I got the idea of using our DIY brushless gimbal on tricycle but initial tests showed that the footage wasn't smooth enough and it had this kind of electronic quality to the movement. Also the gimbal could only fit Pocket cinema camera. Then I got this killer idea of using a full size steadicam on rollerblades! I don't know why I wanted to try this setup because I had never used a real steadicam before and of course never really been on rollerblades. For our surprise this combo gave just the right camera movement without it being overly stabilized and sterile looking. Now we didn't need any permissions and could film almost anywhere in the city - perfect! I also had to build a helmet cam for the POV shots and just had to try couple of different mounting locations to get the angle and field of view right.

Main camera was of course the F3 in s-log mode, 10-bit 4:2:2 Dnxhd to hyperdeck shuttle. Pocket cinema camera with Nikon speedbooster was used for the POV and bike close ups. Lenses on the F3 were the trusty RED zooms 18-50mm and 50-150mm.

Enjoy!

Fantastic job! The steadicam with rollerblades gave a great look to the footage too. I loved the stadium/runner and mountain-valley/rider sweeps. Very talented my friend.

Great video! You really never bladed before..? Seems fun, but also kinda risky considering you might hurt yourself and of course the F3...;)
A "classic" for this is using a wheel chair, you need someone to push, but you can do it everywhere...

Looking at a lot of F3 footage since I just bought a used one yesterday and waiting for it in the mail. This is by far one of best shot and graded commercials that I've seen from the F3. Fantastic work!
