Maximum length of clips

I'm a little confused here. I'we read on the internet a few times (can't remember where) that maximum clip length on the GH1 is only limited to the capacity of the card in use.

Now I just read at a rather reliable source that each clip is limited to 2GB's due to FAT32 limitation. This gives me a maximum clip length of 30 minutes and 20 seconds if the bitrate is about 9Mbps (which is pretty bad quality actually). If shooting in fullHD with the camera's native codec that's only 16 minutes of material. And if were talking about 50 Mbps the max clip length shrinks down to 5.5 minutes. (See this link: http://www.dvxuser.com/content/250-50Mbit-1080p-MJPEG-on-the-Panasonic-GH1)

Now I'we heard people a few times refer to the tax law of the EU which is limiting Pal GH1's and 5D cameras to 30min clip length, but even at the lowest bitrate the 2GB limit doesn't allow clips to go much over 30 minutes.

Could someone shine a light on this for me? Am I maybe misunderstanding here? Has to be :)

My main concern is this: Is the GH1 capable of shooting clips longer than 30 minutes?

Yes, non-EU models will split the recording at 4GB or thereabouts. I'm not convinced there are not a few dropped frames at the split, but it's pretty good for most purposes.

(Looking at a long recording right now - split was at 4192356kB)
