Matte Box suggestions for Portability

I need some suggestions on a good Matte box for the EX1 that is fairly portable as well. With the type of shooting I do at work I'm usually stopping unpacking gear, taking a few shots, then packing back up and moving on for another 5 mins then doing the same again. I am using a Petroff matte box at the moment but the problem is that it's to large to be left on when the camera goes back in the bag so it has to be removed all the time. I was looking at the Cavision matte box for 3x3 filters and it looks like it is the right size. It actually doesnt look a whole lot bigger then the factory shade. I was wondering if anyone has had any use with this 3x3 matte box with the EX1 and what they think about it if you have. Or any other suggestions on matte box's would be great. Thanks,

Kyle.

Why not consider a carry bag that would allow the camera, Petroff and whatever else is attached to be inserted intact? It would be a lot less expensive and you would not have to downgrade your matte box.

I did think about that, but whenever I'm travelling around while shooting I'm either riding a snowmobile or an a.t.v, so the camera is usually in a backpack or a shoulder type bag so I can avoid strapping it to the machine and letting it take all the bumps. Also with the Petroff matte box you cant close the LCD. Thanks for the reply!

I too have the Petroff matte box... it's pretty cumbersome and the sides seem pretty fragile... I keep mine in a plastic tupperware box with some light padding, but that's for when I store it in the video cabinet... I haven't figured out a mobile method for this matte, short of a pelican case dedicated to it. But that doesn't sound like a good solution for you considering how mobile you are...

Maybe it's time for someone to invent a collapsable matte box?

I have a Chrosziel CMB-R20 on my EX3. It stays on always, and lives in a Kata CC-197 bag. Only take the French Flag off. Very light, clip-on with 2 180deg rotating 4x4s.

3x3 will vignette on wide angle shots, no?
And i'm sure when u get the 170, you will want 4x4 or 4x5.
Vocas (Through Century, Schneider) is small, sturdy and durable. Clamp on and rod mount as well, You can add side flags later, built in eyebrows as well. Not plastic either like REDROCK
Depends also on your price range of course.

Thanks for the comments, I was worried about the 3x3 vignetting, that was one of the things I was hoping to find out about on here. Actually the Chrosziel CMB-R20 is the exact matte box that I have been trying to find for quite some time now, so I think I'm going to look into that. Thanks for the help. On that note, anyone need a Petroff Matte Box?

Which accessories do you have for the Petroff and what condition is it in ... I might be interested for my EX3?
