Matte Box for my A7s, Any suggestions?

You know, if you can find it Shoot 35 (www.shoot35.com) made a great clip on matte box that held one 4x4 filter. Great quality. Super compact. Only came with a Top Flag. They don't make it any more sadly but might be able to find used? Their full fledged Matt Box is a great value as well. I don't think you can get a better one for the money.

Just checked. They are re-releasing it on the website. Awesome!

I'm sure the Movcam matte box is super light weight....but man, that's expensive.

I got this one for $149 and I can assure you it is EXACTLY as advertised. 2 filter holders is really minimum if you ask me because frequently an ND filter is there and at least half the time an IR filter or a Polarizer is needed too. There was no way I was going to spend any money on a box with only one filter holder.

Check the video reviews posted in the reviews section - I completely agree this thing is solid as hell. BUT it is a bit heavy - irrelevant on a tripod of course.
Nice detail is that you don't need an allen wrench to tighten or loosen the flags.

Now THIS GUY from Shoot35 looks AWESOME for twice the price but still less than half the price of so many others.
This one, although the same product function-wise, is clearly super high-grade and made with serious precision and detail ESPECIALLY in the filter holders.
If I had the money or if I need to upgrade, I think this is the move.

The only significant difference the super expensive ones seem to have is being light-weight. IF they were made to be that way. I've seen plenty of super expensive ones that were still really heavy. Just to hold a couple filters and the sun shade? Really?

I do recommend the Genus Matte Box lite is very light, sturdy and pretty ;)

I second that, the Genus MB is reasonably priced and very light, quality is top notch. I have been using Genus MBs for over a decade.

Here it is on a FS7:

Olof, what is the follow focus you have? Do you recommend it? james

That is from CAvision:

It is light and as accurate as any of them, very little lash in the gears. Mine is at least 10 years old and still in perfect shape. More expensive than the Chinese ones but quite reasonable really.

I am working on a FF that works a bit differently, the wheel will be in the back of the camera for studio work, and there will be no gear box. Stay tuned I will post updates on it here. I am doing that because I think FF is one area that can be greatly improved, they are generally to heavy and cumbersome. I am doing this new project because I want it and I have a new idea.

Olof, I like the Genus lite but I want to use it with my rods. This guy is selling one but I am not sure if I can have Rods for it http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/pho/4907996563.html

It looks like it is a clamp on version or it had the rail bracket removed. Ask him if the 15mm rail part is still with the unit. The rail part is removable. I also recommend getting the "nuns knickers" instead of the clamp on ring, this way it works with many different lenses sizes w/o having to change the ring clamps.

Also find out what size the clamp being is, or you will have to order extras, but better yet get the "knickers".
