Matt and Bruce HVX lenstest 1 [sgpro]

I finally met up with Bruce Allen to do some lens tests. We didn't get around to playing with all of the lenses (we had around 12 Nikon lenses)
Some of these lenses were rentals, some were mine, and some were provided by my friend Ron Sharp.
Our scene was lit with a kino flo diva with some random house lights on and there was an open window behind us.

Lenses:
17-35mm f/2.8
35mm f/1.4
85mm f/1.8
105mm f/2.0
135mm f/2.0
180mm f/2.8
download full or half-res versions here.
Thanks to Matt at Freshdv.com for hosting these files.

That's some very sharp footy :)
And almost no vignetting at 17mm, how much did you zoom in on your GG?

Oh it feels like home.......

Mmmm... Sharp edges, clear color.... Beautiful set of glass.

Thanks for the kind words timur.
I used your hit autofocus twice trick. Totally saw an improvement.
I was very impressed with a lot of the telephotos there but am still on a hunt for a good wide.

Did you do any post processing to the footage? I'm curious because that usually brings out the ground glass grain a bunch. I'm on the fence with buying a camera, been seriously thinking about getting a used Andromeda system for a while, looks like the SGPro Rev.2 would be a killer addition.

Was this unit a Rev.2?

No post processing on this clip. I have used decent processing on other clips and not noticed it. This is the rev 2 unit.
I can host a small section of this that hasn't been recompressed if you'd like to toy around with it.

it would be! HYDRA with an SGpro would be killer.

I would say supposidly ;) We just don't know what the hydra will be like yet till Juan releases his test footage. I'm betting my money on Andromeda. The larger photosites on the sensors (which are the same size), will most likely give better lattitude, and cleaner data. I think thats why Hydra capable of 14 bit linear, to help get around the sensors physical limits. BUT thats another thread :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Matt, I'm definantly interested in some uncompressed snippets! One request though, if its not too much trouble....

Shoot something at:

Just 3 seconds, no maybe just 2! The above listing of settings are my magical HVX settings that allow for some sweet post image control. Be sure to not blow the highlights, but expose as far up (err.... to the right if you think in terms of histograms) as you can. Keep the highest higlight at like 95ish IRE.

Thanks for the test!
Just got a mail today that the SGpro will take longer to finally meet my sweaty hands:o(
Keeping my fingers crossed...

Was that all interior lighting or was there a window open? I'm curious about the indoor performance of the SGPro

There were windows open behind us but no direct light. Lighting was house lights plus a Kino Flo Diva-Lite 400.

We took some incident and spot readings - will get those to you later.
