Matrix and Gamma???

Ok, here is a simple question: What do matrix and gamma settings do exactly? On www.dvfilm.com they say it's better setting gamma = cine like_V and matrix=normal for film tranfer, so I've been shooting the way DVFilm suggests ever since, but what are they for, since I don't see much of a difference when I change these settings? How do they affect the image look? Should I follow DVFilm even if there's no tranfer film purpose? Any clue??     ???

Thank's. Gu.

Re: Matrix and Gamma???

Gamma relates as to how the grayscale is being reproduced: compressed/expanded shades, compressed/expanded highlights, manipulated midrange values.... Matrix relates to how scene colors are being reproduced (slightly) different from their original color. All output devices (film CRT...) have different typical color looks which can be simulated by electronic masking (=matrix)In TV terms "matrix" is more or less related to "hue" setting in NTSC.

Re: Matrix and Gamma???

Thank's Ulisses, it realy helped me understanding the gamma procces, it's not so clear about matrix though. But I think it was well explained by Andre.

Thank you guys! ;)
