GH4 Matching White Balance: Sigma 18/35 vs Lumix 35-100

Hello,

Long time no post. After numerous tests and not getting as close as I'd like in camera, I'd like to ask the internet if anyone knows the best settings to match the colors from a Lumix 35-100 to a Sigma Art 18-35 (my preferred colors).

As I see it, there is a slight magenta hue to the Lumix. I prefer the teeny bit more amber/yellow of the Sigma Art. I've white balanced on a grey card and recorded clips with each adjusting the white balance A/M/B/G settings in incremental steps, never getting as close as I'd like. Yes I can do the rest in post but I'd love to get as accurate in camera as possible.

At the moment, white I hate to change ANY white balance settings on the Sigma Art, it seems pushing it Magenta +1, Blue +1 gets me the closest match to the closest Lumix setting of Amber +1, Green +1. Still, the Sigma looks a TAD too magenta (yes, I had it at Magenta +1 but taking it to Magenta 0 makes it look too blue and taking out that blue +1 makes it look a tad warmer than the Lumix in any of the Lumix WB settings).

I'M TURNING MYSELF RED WITH FRUSTRATION! Any advice or is this as close as I can expect and it's off to post production to get the colors over the finish line?

Thanks a bunch!

Have you tried white balancing on a white card? I've used a grey card on the GH4 but have had some odd results. White usually works better for me on that camera. Or try a white balancing cap. It's also possible that, being a native lens, the 35-100 is doing something electronically in the GH4 to further adjust the image (I know it does this with sharpening on native lenses).

The white card for me gives me colors that are just slightly off from what I like. But truth be told, I've not compared the lenses doing that, so that'll be my next experiment. Good thought, thank you!

The adjustments available in-camera are relatively crude, so I'm not sure you're going to be able to dial-in such a subtle difference to your satisfaction. Doing it once in post and making a LUT is likely the best combination of easy and effective and repeatable.

I presume this is with a GH5? If so I use a white / grey or expo disk and in the custom WB setting just do an auto WB set and it's good to go and the 2 lenses should match.

I love me some expo disk. Supper handy for mixed lighting environs. I've never found it to be dead on, but it might indeed be the best bet for matching two lenses.
