Matching the DVX200 to GH4’s for Multi Cam Shoots

Does it make sense for those of us that have Panasonic GH4’s to buy a DVX 200 for multi cam shoots, that’s the question? Although Panasonic has released a Like GH4 Scene File, http://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/produ...tom_scene.html a lot of us would like to see how this works in a real world test using both cameras and identical subjects. Can any of you help us out on that with something on Vimeo or U Tube?

A reliable source tells me that next week Panasonic will release new firmware that will make matching the DVX200 to GH4's much easier. This will be great news for multi cam shoots.

The gh4 scene file is already available.

There is new firmware coming next week, with some new features (like -6dB gain setting) but I don't think there is anything specifically about GH4 matching in the new firmware. I am pretty sure that what you must be referring to is the GH4-like scene file they already released.

Are there any U Tube or Vimeo tests showing how the Panasonic DVX200 and GH4 cameras can be matched using the scene files you developed for that purpose or using the GH4-Like scene file?

I'm also in the crowd that wants my gh4 to match my dvx. Barry did a lot of work to help us match up scene files on the dvx to the picture profiles on the gh, but this was all before the new "natural" firmware update, which in my opinion has improved the dvx endlessly. It's great that Pana gave us this gh4 scene file, but I'm still holding out hope that Barry will reformulate his GH4 files for the new firmware. VLOG is great but it can be a lot of work, I personally still favor Cine-D over everything on the GH4 just because it's somewhat of a middle ground picture wise. Not quite VLOG, but not nearly as baked in as a vivid or natural profile, for example.

Barry and Mapper have touched on this before but right now my best bet is making sure you are properly white balancing and exposing, and doing your best to level them out in post.

Have any of you used either Barry’s Scene Files or the “Like GH4” scene file in an attempt to match your AG-DVX200 to your GH4 for multi cam shoots and what kind of luck have you had?

I'd say it looks really good. Not sure that most people including myself can tell the difference between the GH4s & DX200s in your video.

One of these days when things slow down a little I'm going to try and shoot some stuff with my D800 and the DVX200 and see how it matches up.

When the groomsmen came down the aisle their tuxes looked dark gray. In other shots black. I also thought on some of the shots the colors looked rather muted.

That particular shot was done with a GH4 and under very poor lighting conditions. I am convinced that the DVX200 produces a better picture.

Next week our local Panasonic Rep and I will be getting together to prepare for a Tampa Bay Panasonic Camera Users Group meeting on May 25[SUP]th[/SUP], the topic of the meeting will be matching the AG-DVX200-4K camera to the GH4-4K camera. Research is still being done but chances are the scene files created by Barry Green or the “Like GH4” scene file offered by Panasonic will be used for this demonstration.

If this works, GH4-4K owners will have what’s been missing for them, a traditional video camera for multi camera shoots, run and gun and events that matches their GH4-4K cameras.
