Matching the DVX100a with the HVX200

We are shooting a SD documentary with the DVX100a and the HVX200. Despite the fact that both cameras are set to 24p with matching scene files, the footage is not looking identical.

The footage shot with the HVX seems to be soft, especially at MW lengths. It looks much more dull and soft than the DVX100a footage. It just seems a little different--has a slightly duller, less crisp look--subtle, but soft.

Does anyone have any tips on how to make these cameras match exactly?

Thanks for your time,

Isaac

I have done alot of shoots with both of those cameras. I usually have to push the gain in the HVX to at least +3 and do a mutual white balance. Tweaking the detail level can dial them in even closer. The extra glass in the HVX lense seems to soak up almost a full stop
compared to the DVX glass. Try to avoid switching the shutter to 1/24th on the HVX unless
the subject has minimal motion or it will lose detail there. I even used both cameras on a feature last year and had the DVX camera (only used for cutaways) up-rezzed with Terranex and it looked amazing. Check out the trailer at: www.southafricamovie.com
Good luck. Jim.

Set the settings to be identical between them as a start, and then lower the master pedestal on the DVX to about -8, and to about -2 on the HVX. Then manually white balance both of them. It's been a while since I did this, but from what I remember, I got them looking very similar using these steps.

Could be remembering wrong though, so the only way to really know is to pipe the output of both of them into the same monitor and switch between them.

I'll give that a shot.
Thanks for the feedback.

And thanks for your extensive support materials on the HVX, Barry.
They are incredibly helpful...
