I'd like to use an A6000 with a speedbooster as a second camera to my A7S, but I'm in love with shooting SLOG-2. Is there anyway to match the A6000 footage or is it way too laborious?
You want to match the a6000 to color corrected slog2? Hard to tell what exactly you are saying. It shoudlnt really be that difficult should it? I mean you will have less DR with the a6000, but you can always shoot it with contrast and saturation -3 and then correct it slightly from there to keep a flatter low contrast look.
What I'm asking is how difficult would it be to match footage from the A6000 to Slog-2 footage from the A7S. I know the A6000 has Neutral or Flat profile, but I'm not sure how close it comes from the A7S footage with SLOG-2 on...
I have no concrete solution, but can offer some thoughts,as I have been pondering the same scenario (exceptI have an a7r ii on order, not an a7s).
Resolve 12 has a new color-match feature, that i have yet to explore. This could be useful, if you provide identical shots from both cameras, and then export correction as lut that can be applied in other software as well. However, the correction will always be dependant on light source and exposure.
Also in resolve, you have the option of using color charts like the xrite color checker. Using this with both cameras will be helpful. The main challenge I will suspect to be the latitude and different exposure-curves of the different profiles on her respective cameras (ie s-log vs neutral.)
However you attack it, you will need some skill and understanding of the process to get a good result, but my feeling is that, yes it's certainly doable. I have managed to get good results with cameras way less related than these.
Just remember that although you can't get a perfect match on similar images, you probably won't shoot the same angles and compositions with the cameras, and thus can get away with quite a bit as long as the most important colors match from shoot to shoot (skintones, foilage, sky etc).
