Matching HVX200 or HPX170

Anyone had any experience mixing their HPX300 with HVX200 or HPX170 in a two-camera interview setting? I need a second camera for a shoot but I'm having a difficult time finding an HPX300 for rent in Montreal, so I'm considering using a simpler, more readily-available camera.

Hi Barry! In my experience i've find that matching a 200 or a 170 with a 300 is a bit difficult if you are shooting in HD. Well you can record in DVCPROHD with the 300 but you will have completely different details range from the two models. If you're not practice with a 300 it's a bit difficult. You have to change scene files parameters and color temp to match footages. Well the scene files menù are the same and the commands are the same too! But if you are much confident with the 200 or 171 i will use them for the interview and maybe the 300 for other shoot, such as external or ambient to mix with your interview. This is my opinion to make your life easy in post!

You might try calling 514-342-4545 Inter Cite Video. They are a rental house with Panasonic gear and may have a 300. When you send me your dates I can post on the Montreal Film Group for you as well.
 
Hi Barry, I do this all the time with our 300 and 170 and I can tell you it's no picnic. Admittedly I am not near the quality of expert that you will find here but I have been shooting with these 2 for about 1 year and it is one of my frustrations. We have tried white balance, setting the scene files to as close a match as possible. But I think what I need to do is the tedious activity of setting them both up in a controlled area and shooting, reviewing, tweaking, shooting, reviewing, tweaking, etc. I simply do not have that time so I come as close as I can and leave it at that. There is a Maggie Valley Club commercial shot with the 300, 170 (crane and pool shots) and some 5d stuff. Then also click on the Wake Forest stuff as well, there you will see the 300 and the 170 in a HORRIBLY lit room (mixed flo and tungsten=awful). The main camera is the HPX300 and the cutaways from the side are the HPX170. Admittedly it is not great but if can help you at all I will.
