i'm shooting a project with my EX1 and the director will be operating his camers(hpx170). he wants to match my camera to his.

here's his settings, maybe you could let me know how to adjust my camera to match his:

Detail - +1

chroma level - 0

chroma phase - 0

Gamma - B-press

Matrix - Cine-like

thanks,
Mike

My experience is that it is difficult to match different brands of cameras.
You will need to do some colour correction in post for sure.
That's how it's gone for me.
Better to swap for an HPX170 for the shoot if you can.
It will save you some hair.
My two cents.

Here's my two cents,... I've been recently shooting events with a Canon 5D Mark II and I've been using the Technicolor Cinestyle picture profile. This profile is designed to give you very flat look in order to gain more dynamic range in the 5D. I have a setting/Video Profile from Barry Green that is the Dynamic Range Profile and I have found if my White Balance is matched, I can get a very good match between the two cameras. Both of these settings on both cameras require you to grade in post, which is no problem for me. The fact that I can match the look of my 5D and my HPX is what I'm syched about.
I would suggest finding out if there is a flat, unsaturated type setting for the EX1 and try matching it to that setting on the HPX170.

+1 to the last post. Go flat and you should be fine. Also, see if the budget is there for matched external recorders. If you're recording in the same codec you'll have a much easier go of everything.
