Matching HPX with 5D/7D footage

I have a shoot this weekend with a number of cameras, some are 5D's, 7D's, and a couple of 170's.

What would be the best way to match the footage of the 170's to the canon DSLR's?

1. Change settings in scene file to match footage?

OR

2. Change settings in scene file with the intention of color correcting the footage and match in post?

What would be the best way to do this?

My guess would be to shoot pretty flat on cinelike D with the hpx and expect most of your post prod work to be with that footage. It's a hell of a lot easier to deal with than correcting the canon stuff. So go with whatever look you want with the slrs first.

I'll be in the same situation pretty soon here but that's my plan.

I do usually shoot cinelike D, then correct in post.

I did forget to add that the majority of the footage will be nighttime, so i'm a little worried about noise/grain. Should I adjust for Detal Level/Coring?

Yeah crank the detail level up so that you can maybe match the canon's aliasing. :D

I'm kidding.

I'd definitely take advantage of the coring ......but I do that anyway when shooting in low light. Let's not forget just how noisy HVX/HPX footage can get if you don't stay on top of it. I try to stay away from upping the detail level too much if I know there's going to be issues with available light.

From what little correcting I've done with 7D footage, I still say go for the look you want in camera with the slrs, and leave the latitude with the panasonic.

I've heard from someone that the color sampling in the canon video footage is 4:2:0, but couldn't find any quick mention of this from canon. Can anyone verify that for me? It would definitely make sense. And if that is the case, I think that strengthens my reasoning.
