I've had this come up in quite a few shoots now where I am filming fast action like sports, dance, etc. where I want to utilize the 1080 60p capability of my FS100, but then my B-camera is a Sony EX1 or a DSLR that can only shoot 1080 30p, 60i or 720 60p. My default, on jobs where I am also the editor, is to just shoot 720 60p and then uprez to 1080 to match the FS100 in a 1080 60p timeline (Usually in FCP 7, ProRes LT codec).
Has anyone else run into this dilemma and if so, what do you think is the best solution? My theory is that adding lines of resolution works better than trying to add fps.
I have a job next week shooting a pro football player where the second camera operator probably won't have a camera that shoots 60p and I won't be the editor. I also don't know what editing platform will be used. Probably FCP 7 or FCP X (the latter I have not used). Recommendations are appreciated. Thank you!
