Just wondering if it's possible to convincingly match Sony A7S II and Canon 5D Mark III footage at a wedding?? It's looking like i'm going to have to go with my friend who only has a Canon 5D III, but i'm scared about matching footage??

Good luck with skin tones and white balance.

I find the best skin tones out of the camera for the A7S is to use Gamme = Movie, Color Mode = Cinema. So give that a try and see if it matches well. This will help to reduce DR as well to match the Canon 5D MKIII, but you'll need to tweak the other settings to get it to match better.

Why should white balance be an issue as long as we both set it to Indescendant, should be ok, no? Ok I don't think that theres a 'Movie' gamma setting, but there is a 'Cinema' colour mode.

Try and see what you get. I wouldn't be surprised if there were notable WB differences, different skin tone shifts (with the Canon going a bit more red), and a big sharpness difference. All can be fixed in post but make sure what you're getting into.

Each camera interprets the color of light differently. It's weird the way they work but do a test kelvin for kelvin and you will see. Some match better than others but every camera is different.

Just going from the original A7S to the A7SII results in different white balance interpretations.

Interesting. Well I can always do the kelvin test like you say. I'll do my best, and if I don't get it right in camera, i'll get it right in post.

Anybody recommend similar profiles for ease of matching A7S II footage to Canon Mark III footage?? Does Canon have a Log mode? If so, that might end up being the best way of going about things.

havn't done this but did mach shitty 150$ cameras with very expensive cameras....it can be done and it will make you better.
Sometimes it forces you to make new creative choices when you can't match them completely. Every shot is a bit different and some can't be matched seemlessly...so you figure out something else to use it anyway.....you have 2 great cameras you may want to use them for their best features......close ups don't need sharpness...people in general dont. sharpness is bs for most part...artifacts may use some sharpness. Anyway planning your shots a bit may help the end result...good luck.
weddings are terrible lol

Just shoot everything in black and white... problem solved!

I'm kidding, of course... or am I?
