Matched lighting for green screen?

I've never really done a chroma key before but have an opportunity to do one. I was wondering if you need to match lighting when illuminating a green screen? I have enough fresnels to illuminate the talent with fill, key and kicker but not enough to properly illuminate the background as well. I was thinking of using my Cool Light flos to illuminate the green screen background. Do I need to use 3200K tubes? Or does it matter to get a clean key? Thanks.

I think that should work ok so long as you control the light to not get on your primary subject. As far as for the key, just good even lighting on the green screen and keeping the green screen as wrinkle free as possible will be the (pardon the pun) key.

as long as the screen is evenly lit - with no hot spots or shadows. it doesnt really matter what you light it with relative to the subject. all you want is a consistent color that is not part of your foreground subject.

It's not that simple - not if you want a decently easy key.

If you're shooting tungsten color balance, you'll need tungsten color temp on the screen, same with daylight. So yes, 3200k tubes with your fresnels, or gel the flos.

The optimal key color for green - when eyedroppered in your software - is 0r 255g 0b - you want the green to only fill the "green" of RGB - it makes a huge difference.

I really like flos for green screens, and when I've used large screens - say 20' x 10' - even those huge 85 watt flo bulbs in a clip light are a big help. But if the shot is important, test your lights and your screen; you may find you need something like 1/4 green, some minus green, etc.

I've made some green screen lights with scrap parts, china ball sockets, etc - they're dynamite with the big oversized flo bulbs.
