Master Ped and cinegamma

We all know that cinegamma helps to keep som details in the shadows. But when you change the master ped you crush the blacks, doesnt that take away the advantage of cinegamma or am I missing something?

Whats the ideal setting for master ped and cinegamma?

Re: Master Ped and cinegamma

Cinegamma does not keep details in the shadows. CInegamma has a staight curve from black to white with no curve introduced (knee). If you want to add detail to your shadows, you would raise the master pedestal and then play with it in post allowing you to best decide where you want your blacks, shadows and amount of detail to be.

The captured black will be different based on what the Setup is set yo, but you can create the same black levels between the two. SETUP 7.5 and MASTER PEDESTAL -8 creates the same black level as SETIP 0 and MASTER PEDESTAL -6. This is true for the DVX100p. The DVX100A is diferent and I will be posting that table soon to my site. One of things that was fixed is there is now 7.5 IRE difference betwee the 0IRE and 7.5IRE rather than the 2.5IRE difference between the two on the DVX100p.

Re: Master Ped and cinegamma

For what it's worth in the year I have had this camera I have found for me there is not a one 'good' master ped settting. I am constantly adjusting it for almost each setup. For lit interviews I am usually around -7 and -5 but outside in contrasty sun I will sometimes get up to +1 it all depends, and a good field monitor really helps. This is all based on 7.5 ire.
