I just shot a video today and I lost 10 mins of footage just like that!! It was just gone from the tape - Disappeared into thin air!! What the hell coulda caused that?!?!

Not likely. 3 different people used the cam during that period, and all the footage was fine other than the ghost 10 minutes. Not everyone could have been so forgetful...

Sounds like someone hit rewind or maybe hit record with the lenscap on.

it happened to me a couple of regrettable times (especially in fast documentary-like situation) to 'swap' the rec and standby mode.
it's actually easier than it may seem: you just forget stopping at the end of a take, and you will keep on recording until you actually want to record and hitting the button you'll put in standby. if you have had a couple of drinks or you're not in your best shape the procedure can go on for a few times.

Like Isaac said, maybe somebody hit the record button with the lenscap on and when you wanted to start recording you actually stopped it.

sorry about that.

That is so DAMN TRUE, it happened to me a few times, specially when you're in a rush and you trying to still a shot and such.. I had this perfect shot I was looking at it through the viewfinder I was amazed how beatiful the shot look then I yell action, only to find out I actually hit standby it was recording all the long, so yup I missed the perfect shot. When I went home to view the footage.. I almost cried honestly.. but oh well, nothing I could do about it..

I feel your pain man, the only thing I can suggest is try and get that ten minutes back if it's possible. Let me ask something, I'm pretty sure everyone does this, but before a shoot do you guys first test record... you know to make sure sound is good tape is working fine?

believe me on a shoot this is one of the most important things you must do, because nothing is worst then recording 2 hours of footage and going home to find out that whole 2 hours is messed up... it never happened to me, but it happened to a friend of mines, luckilly the DVX has the "Red X" thingie.. but still I always do my test before each shoot.
