Maserati Spot (Grabs)

I got called at the last minute to do a spot for a local Maserati dealer. Zero prep time, almost zero shoot time, but who can say "no" to an offer to spend a few hours playing with the DVX -AND- a handful of Maseratis?

Simple package: DVX, Skycrane, 4x4 Polarizer, Manfrotto sticks, Lowell 4-light kit.

Shot through the rear window -- polarizer worked wonders for cutting the glare. CTB on the lights, balanced on blue card.

This was off the jib -- "dolly" from rear of car and rack focus to Maserati logo in mirror (reflected off driver side headrest).

This one is prettier in motion. The golden foreground is the hood of a car. Shot from jib -- cam lifts up to reveal logo on grill of another car. Looks kind of funky as a grab. Ick.

Gratuitous jib shot to show off all 4 models -- magic hour (got lucky!)

Opening shot of spot -- wheel rolls into frame and stops with logo lined up (shot this with car going out of frame and just reversed footage in post). I'm hiding behind the black flag. These $15 lug nuts are reflective! I actually said to myself "good thing this isn't HD!"

Not much to say -- I just like the golden reflections along the side of the car.

Anyhoo -- I may post the full spot later... but I figure the client should see it before it gets released to the wild untamed wilderness that is the internet.

Actually, I joked about it -- half-hoping they'd decide that the only real way to sell these things would be to mount the DVX on the side of the car and take it out for a spin!

Sick grabs you perfectly captured the beauty of Maseratis like mine (the last pic).

Ah who am I kidding!? I can't even touch one of those cars!

You would think a Maserati dealership could afford a bit more in their production budget. All the same, it looks pretty nice. The exteriors and wider shots are better, in my opinion, and mask the grain and other flaws to some extent.
