[WTB] marketplace feedback system. What are your thoughts?

Hey, all... Since this has been running a while, I just wanted to touch base with everyone and see what your thoughts are on it. what changes you might like to see made, etc...

Feel free to post up your thoughts here. Looks like it has seen pretty good use so far, so that is good. Am just curious to get your thoughts on its effectiveness, or how it might be improved.

Thanks for your time.

I think it's a good idea, in theory. However, it doesn't seem to be used much from my perspective so I wonder about its practical value. I've sold maybe 6-8 items since the feedback system was introduced but have yet to receive feedback on any of those transactions. Am I an exception?

there have been 118 ratings left so far... looks like 29 in the last month. so, maybe a clip of around 1/day...

I think, to address your concern, one thing that sellers can do, is encourage the buyers to leave feedback for them once the sale has completed, and to point out the "rate seller" button. It is still probably unfamiliar to some folks, and some may not have even noticed it yet.

Though, yeah... I think, in general... the number of people who actually review, leave feedback on things (across the web, not just here) is a minority of those who actually buy/sell things on the internet.

I think you should look at the Fred Miranda photography forums for how they implement feedback. It's a pretty good system and gets a lot of use. I rely on that feedback immensely when purchasing big ticket items.

I just did my first transaction and was unaware of the feedback system. I am also fairly new to the forums. Advertising it more somehow maybe by making it more apparent on the left (different color, name it "marketplace rating") might help.

I think everything works perfectly. I have sold 5 items so far and haven't had any troubles from my side and the buyer even though I wish they left some ratings.

works fine, ive been using it since i dont have any feedback anywhere other than buying stuff from ebay.
ive been using it the most and encouraging others to use it
jason, i sent you PMs and emails about another issue though. let me know
thanks

Wow, I didn't realize you guys have a feedback system. I buy and sell a lot on here. This is my main place to look for deals. I personally don't know that having a feedback system will really influence my buying/selling. As long as I see someone is a long-time member or has many posts, I generally don't think twice about buying from them. If they're a relatively new member, I am a little more cautious but still haven't had any problems.

Me too, I always look on it too but I also look for some recent posts they made, it helps too.

I'm curious, has anyone had a "bad" experience on here? (for example, seller never sent item after payment was sent)

I bought a couple things here last week, one of which already arrived.
I'd like to leave some kind of positive feedback for the seller but am clueless on how to do that . . . which might explain why it's not being used much?
(seems like this is an odd place to have this thread)

a search of "leave feedback" is how I found this thread.

It wasn't clear if you wanted feedback on the feedback system , or the marketplace itself, so appologies if this wasn't what you were looking for.

But as for feedback on the marketplace as previously discussed in this thread the following would be a good start for changes to the marketplace:

• 30 day minimum membership before posts can made in marketplace, or alternatively access by "membership" approval only.

• 7 day bumping rule for items. Why? Do the math; DVX gets 20-30 new posts per day. After 14 days your post is on the 15th page of DVX where no one is looking. Searches also don't work well 100% depending on terms used.

• Categories to organize all the equipment for sale, in the thread I linked to I had suggested this as a start. Again, more categories means the first 1-4 pages will hold more posts for longer. Right now there are too many posts that dilute the entire marketplace thread.

Proposed categories:

CAMERAS & EQUIP (all video/photo cameras)
CAMERA ACCESSORIES (matte box, rails, LCD monitors, EVF)
LENSES (lenses, lens filters)
SUPPORT (dolly, cranes, jibs, tripods, heads)
GRIP (stands, sandbags, booms, clamps)
LIGHTING (lights, gels, frames, fabrics)
SOUND (mics, hardware, recorders)
POST-PRODUCTION (hardware and software)
ALL-OTHER (misc. filmmaking related items: books, DVD's)

• Feedback rating system is currently in place, some users know about it others don't. But its a great thing to keep and utilize.

I'm pretty sure he was asking about the feedback system . . . thus the title of this thread.
(everyone is pretty much aware of your thoughts about how they should run this website . . . as you beat that horse pretty much to death in the other thread, no?).

Anyhow.
I'm still looking for someone to point me in right direction so I can leave appropriate positive feedback for two members that sold me audio recording equipment last week.
Apologies to all.

dregenthal, click on the member's username, this takes you to their info page. Click on the "Feedback Score" tab to the right of their profile info. Below that is the "Submit Feedback For _____," link, click and you're good to go! :)

Starcentral (Dennis) Thanks, but... we've heard you every time (back in the appropriate thread) :)

I've listened to all of the feedback that members had to offer, and myself and some of the other mods have discussed potential changes/adjustments to the marketplace moving forward. Have a little patience, please.

Dreg... Additionally, you can rate the seller from their original post in a thread. For example, if I were a seller, and this was my thread, and you ended up being my buyer of whatever I was selling in this thread. You can go to my original post that started this thread, and you should see along the bottom left side of my post the "Rate Seller" icon with a little green checkmark gif. You can just click that. That way the url of the sales thread (required) will automatically be in place.

Take care.
