market injustice

Handheld video devices are now so readily available that I think the portability of the one is closing in on the portability of the other...

That may be true, but how many brides have them? :) And how many people would be willing to watch a wedding, vs. glancing at a few photos?

I'm just explaining the perceived value of the one over the other. And markets are made up of perceived value.

The market for the video is primarily the MOTB, and family who can't make the trip. For the happy couple, I also make a short form music video of the ceremony, for anniversary viewing. Helps sell the package.

The reason we didn't have a wedding videographer is because knew what really went into getting a a great final piece, and there was no way I was going to plunk down even a grand for junk. Besides, back in 2003 I would've wanted to shoot on 16. :) Anyway, we splurged on our wedding photog and it's a decision we don't regret. She was probably 40% more than most other people we looked at, but it was well worth it.

We drove to Vegas, got hitched, took our own wedding pix with a disposable camera, and drove back to LA the same day.

Wedding money is for spending on the HONEYMOON.

I have only done 1 wedding video and thats for a very very close friend of mine. I guess this is the reason why people hate doing weddings.

Maybe you guys should charge extra for

a) editing
b) cc
c) titling
d) dvd menu design

Why not, seems like thats what the photographers are charging !

:p

There's definitely some merit to that, but there's always a great possibility of it causing 100 miles of bad road with the MOTB. Be sure to scout that out first. :)
