Mark Sherman EPK

Nice session.
Cool open.
Did you or the client prefer 4:3? Or could you not shoot squeeze?
I would think it would look better in 16:9.

The zoom at :24. Zooms don't look very professional, and it's hard to start smoothly, a cut to a CU might have been better.

For the interviews, it feels a little odd to have them look into the camera instead of off-camera, plus you could have alternated having them look to the left and right.
And, space permitting, it would have been nice to have a little more separation from the background. Also, less flat, moodier lighting would have been good, matching the club lighting better.

Good CU at 1:28 of the vibes. Does this camera have more saturated color?

3:11 Nice shot of the rhythm section.

3:20 Soft focus?

3:24 Horn player does a 180 from the previous shot, could you have cut back to the WS first?

3:46 Nice shot with the music charts and lights, adds context.

4:03 Nice still sequence as he talks about the other players.

7:32 Would have been good to have more than one second of the shot behind the drummer.

9:00 Good WS of the club, helps establish the location. One of these at the beginning of each song would be great,

Cool player credits with their hands.

Great audio.
Nice EPK!

Thanks for all your comments Chuck.

This footage is taken from a 90 minute concert where many of your suggestions/comments were covered. Some of your comments regarding editorial context are most respected and acknowleged. I agree completely with you about the interview background fighting the musicians but I in regards to them speaking directly to the audience/viewer, this was my request since I like them to make that attention grabbing eye contact. A personal choice, certainly, and one that any director makes and stands by.

Thanks again for your time and well versed comments.
