Well. Many of you have heard of the feature film DRAWING WITH CHALK (there are several posts about the film here). We are close to finishing up our festival circuit (over 18 festivals) and we are having our official opening in NYC on March 25th, 2011 at the Quad Cinema. We are working on LA after that and we have interest in having other cities showing the film as well.

Our music is currently being mixed by a renowned engineer with extensive experience (The Beach Boys, Brian Wilson, Brian Setzer to name a few) and I've decided to get the film eligible for the 2012 Academy Awards so I can submit our opening song 'Beyond Belief' to be considered for Best Original Song.

Yes, I know it seems impossible but the one thing I like to believe: If you risk nothing, you risk everything.

So (thanks to our friends from the doc OFFICIAL REJECTION) I've decided to try and document this quest. Our idea: get as many people to join our quest. Our campaign will be to get as large a fan base on Facebook as possible (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Many-people-One-dream-Our-Quest-for-an-Oscar/136589106384999?ref=ts). If the numbers grow we will be getting the press involved (possibly even politicians who want to show that even in our rough economy that the American Dream is still alive).

We started the launch (and documentary) yesterday.

Many people have said that our back story would make for a great film, but I figure I'll keep it a 'back story' and start from here.

Right now I'm documenting using my iPhone 4 (yeah, I know...) and we are shooting a music video for the song in two months (again, with the iPhone 4 cut with footage from the film). I'm also looking into several friends to help me document along the way (and I do plan on trying to get interviews from Academy members). This will be a huge undertaking, I know, but I've made it to this point and we've got nothing to lose (trust me, I'm not trying to sound like a cliche).

I will be posting as we progress so I hope you join us on this journey!

I've secured the location for our music video shoot. This is the same location that we had used in Drawing with Chalk for the factory. Ironically, the owner of the place use to be in a rock band in the late '60's and toured extensively for years until deciding to settle down and raise a family. If you've seen the film you'd understand ;)

In other news, we (DWC) are flying down to the Naples International Film Festival in November (3 screenings) and we just got into the Hell's Half Mile Film and Music Festival.

A lot on my plate right now....

Well, step one is on it's way....
WKPQ 105.3 (upstate NY radio station) is going to start putting our title song 'Beyond Belief' in rotation and they are reaching out to other stations (Long Island, Rochester) and see if they will do the same. We also got a little press in the local papers so there is some buzz.

It does seem a few are reluctant to appear in a documentary (damn early Monday mornings...) It's alright, I just shoot around them :)

can you please summarize what this is exactly? I couldn't quite understand what all this is about ....you're embarking on a campaign to try to get a best original song Oscar for the music used in your film Drawing with Chalk is that it?

Exactly that. We will follow the requirements and play a week in LA county next year after we open in NYC. After we qualify we will submit the opening track for Best Original Song. We know the road ahead is nearly impossible, but some said that making a film (Drawing with Chalk) would be impossible.

We are documenting this quest. Basically that is it.

ah. And where is the song and where can it be heard? I'd like to take a listen to it.

Homonculus, if you are a FB member, you can go to our page and the song is available on the Music Player (lower left side below Favorite Pages) here: Beyond Belief

I know Facebook isn't the be all/end all of promotion, but it seems to be the way things are headed.

However, if you aren't on FB, we will have the music video up as soon as we shoot it (mid-October) and I'll post it on youtube for all to see.

Again, we are shooting the video with an iphone 4 (we shot the film with the HVX200 but I had to sell all of my equipment in order to keep the 'dream' alive. Besides, the iPhone 4 has a characteristic that will work well with what we are planning.
