manufacturers defect: problem with external mic

I took my camera in today to a place called TV Specialists in Salt Lake City because I just got a new Azden shotgun mic for a project I'm starting this week and it wasn't working right. The sound just sounds terrible... like a real bad echo. The man that helped me said it's a defect with the "board" in the camera. The same place is an authorized Panasonic repair facility and they said they could repair it with a copy of my receipt. The problem is that they said it would be almost 2 weeks before they would have a chance to look at it. Since they work on a first come first serve basis, that would mean me being without my camera for quite a while. I'm starting on this project this week and will be needing my camera by my side at all times until June or so. My warranty runs up in April. Does anyone have any ideas? Have they had this problem? Was it complicated to getfixed? Any recommendations of how to take care of this? Thanks for any ideas you have at all.

Maybe...contact Panasonic NA, get a list of authorized warranty-repair houses, and start calling until you find someone to whom you could FedEx your camera, who will give it priority.

I was working in SLC a few months ago, and it seemed like there was quite an independent film/video community there, including DVX users (our PAs were all local and already had lots of experience on LDS production projects). Maybe there's a local DVX user who'd be willing to loan/reasonably rent you a camera to cover you while yours is out.

Or, just a possibility - you could record double-system sound using a separate recorder, and then manually synch your sound in post. I know that's a huge pain in the ass, but for short bits of dialog it is an effective workaround.

Hope you're fixed up, soon.

Thanks for your reply.

I film snowboarding. Syncing audio in every clip of the movie would be very very very very time consuming. Also, since I film snowboarding I am very poor and can't afford to rent a camera and everyone I know with a DVX is busy with it because the snow is falling. I am very curious if anyone has any experience with this problem and if it was a timely repair or not. Thanks.
