manual zoom doesn't work!?

just got a brand new dvx-100a and the manual zoom doesn't work! anyone experienced this? switching the switch from auto to manual does nothing - the manual zoom doesn't work, it's stuck permanently with the servo zoom! any ideas? or should i drop kick this baby right back to panasonic...

What do you mean that it doesn't work? Does it not turn at all? You are using the switch it the front of the camera, correct?

yes. the "zoom" switch at the front of the camera. when i switch it between servo and manual it remains in servo mode and i cannot manually move the zoom ring - the servo continues to work and that's that.
