Can anyone give me some advice on manually setting my DVX's white balence. I dotn really understand the purpose or how to do it so any help would be great. THANKS!
Point the camera at a flat white thing...a piece of posterboard, a t-shirt, even a real white card. Choose A or B on the White Bal switch. Push the little AWB button on the front of the camera. (If you hold the button too long, it will also do the black balance...not a bad thing occasionally)
Of course, that white card should be where the subject is/will be, so the lighting is the same as what you'll shoot.
White balance is different indoors and outdoors (and with different situations of both places, shade, lighting etc.) If you set your white balance indoors then take you camera outside the colors will be off. You will see it on your lcd. Very blue or very red etc. I reset my white balance all the time, very important or you will have to do a lot of tweaking in post. You can set your camera to do this automatic and if you are doing a shoot where you go inside and outside a lot you can preset your A and B on each location so you don't have to keep setting it everytime.
White is a reference for all the colors that camera will be recording... set it properly to get the correct colors. In short: if white is white, all colors will be corrrect under same light situation.
When you set white balance you're saying to the camera: that reference is white and the camera will adjust it as white
Where is "getting the right image" located?
I typed into search, no luck.
I'm looking for tips/techniques for location white balancing (aside from point the camera at a white source). I understand there's a product that helps generate warmer skin tones and color casts list price is $60. Is there another inexpensive method?
Otherwise the cheap way of doing it is post colour correction combined with good white balancing......and possibly creating in-camera warmer tones(depending on your filming situation)
